Dorothy Margaret Ward, beloved wife of the late Murray Vernon Ward, passed away on April 9, 2024, at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was born on January 19, 1938, in Fredericton, NB, the daughter of the late Dorothy (Hayward) Currie and the late Frederick Currie.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children: Vernon Ward, Valerie King, David Ward (Marie), Gerald Ward (Mary), Kenny Ward (Sherri), Marilyn Cleveland (Danny), and Andrew Ward (Tina); her sister, Veronica Bruce; cherished grandchildren: Robbie Ward (Roberta), Jeannie Ward (Andrew), Joey King (Sarah), Jason King (Kayla), Sandy Ward (Corey), Kimberley Campbell (Adam), Alan Ward, Jillian Cleveland (BJ); adored great-grandchildren: Josh Ward (Jenna), Brandon Ward (Nicole), Kyle Ward, Rebecca King, Olivia King, Scott King, Jaxon King, Tayah King, Leo King, Esther Dow, Victoria Dow, Sylvia Dow, Dylan Campbell, Russell Campbell, Hailey Young, Justin Young, Zoey Young, Deakon Ward, Josef Pelz, and Freya Ward; and treasured great-great-grandchildren: Violet Ward, Ava Ward, and Everly Ward. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her sisters: Jean Smith, Mary Harris, Martha Gillet, and Pat Bernard; grandson, Kevin Cleveland; son-in-law, Paul King; and daughter-in-law, Hazel Ward.
Dorothy’s devotion to her family and her faith community at Life Tabernacle Church was profound, as was her love for country and gospel music. She loved to sing and would join in whenever there was music being played especially in Church or at a Kitchen Party.
Dorothy loved camping. Her and Murray spent many years camping at Lake George Provincial Park where she loved to sit and look at the Lake from her trailer. Dorothy’s home on the Hanwell Road was a gathering place where everyone was welcome. She was very generous and would help anyone in need. The house was always full of family and friends. You could usually find her sitting in her spot at the kitchen table looking out the window watching the traffic go by. That was her happy place when she was not at the Campground.
Dorothy had a great sense of humour. Anyone who knew Dorothy has probably been on the receiving end of her joking and teasing. She was well known for her quick wit and laugh that was contagious.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff at Shannex – Frederick Hall for the love and care they provided to Dorothy during her years there. She loved joking around with all the workers and they loved teasing her back. We couldn’t have asked for better people to be looking after her.
A Funeral Service will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB, on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Terry Messer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Lincoln, at a later date. For those who wish to honor Dorothy’s memory, donations may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Personal condolences can be shared at www.yorkfh.com
