Obituary of Dixie Ann Yeazel
It is with profound sadness we share the passing of Dixie Ann Yeazel. Dixie passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB, on March 18th, 2024.
Born on June 16, 1941 in Windsor, Ontario. Dixie was the second of four children of the late Charlie Reid and Emma Kay Yeazel (nee Plested).
Dixie will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her husband of 50 years, Donald Gould, and her children, James Buchanan (Vivian), Daniel Buchanan, David Buchanan and special friend Annie, Lisa Gorham (Stephen), and Anna Scott (Craig) and grandchildren, Connor, Kirk, Ray, Nixie, Johnathan, Carolyn, Thomas, Danial, Jacob, and Caleb, and brothers Edward (Linda), and Charles.
In addition to her parents, Dixie was predeceased by her first husband Ronald Buchanan, and sister, Marlene Brown.
Dixie found meaning in the simple yet deeply profound aspects of life such as time spent with family and friends, her deep spiritual life and church family, gardening, full moons and sun rises, walking and biking, swimming and fitness classes at the YMCA, she loved homemade food and baking, CBC on Saturday mornings, and any outing in nature or thrifting, and was always available for a call or to share a cup of tea. Dixie was resourceful and could make something out of nothing and created a warm and beautiful home.
Dixie’s priority was to raise her five children, but she also worked in various jobs. She learned to sew in her youth and used those talents to create and alter clothing for her family, and later on she operated Dixie’s Sewing. Dixie provided childcare in her home for several families who were always dear to her. One of her favorite jobs was in housekeeping at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, where she worked for 7 years until age 65.
A memorial service in celebration of Dixie’s life will be held at Christ Church Parish Church, 245 Westmorland St. on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Wandlyn Snelgrove as officiant. A reception will follow in the church hall. Dixie always dressed with comfort in mind, so please feel free to wear what you love, with colour and style. Interment to her final resting place will be the Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Windsor, Ontario, at a later date. For those unable to attend the service, a live stream will be available at the following link: vimeo.com/event/4174954 In the event of a poor connection, a recording will be made available at a later date.
In remembrance of Dixie, donations can be made to the Fredericton Food Bank or the Fredericton Emergency Shelter, both of these organizations were near and dear to her heart.
