Alfreda “Freda” May Hickey of Tay Creek, NB, passed away on August 6, 2024, in Fredericton , NB. Born on December 11, 1928, in Tay Creek, NB, Freda was the daughter of the late Emily (Bull) and James MacKinnon. She was the beloved wife of the late Jeremiah “Jerry” Hickey.
Freda is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Margaret Hickey; her five grandchildren, Robert (Maddie), Patrick (Candyse), Joshua (Susie), Timothy, and Christina; and her seven great-grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Sophie, Cameron, Nicholas, EJ and Benjamin. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Freda was predeceased by her sons, Raymond and James Hickey; sisters, Marie Hayes, Viola Houle, Mabel MacKinnon, Beatrice Jones, Gladys Davidson, and Pearl Buchanan; brothers, Elwood and Gerald MacKinnon and her grandson, Benjamin.
Freda worked as a cook at the London Club for 25 years. In retirement she enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers with her little doggie Lucky. She was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB, on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 1:00 pm with Rev. Brian DeLong officiating. Interment to follow at Stirling United Church Cemetery, Tay Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Freda may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
