Robert “Bob” Demerchant
1931-2024
On Monday, December 30, 2024, Robert (Bob) Leon Demerchant met his
Lord face to face, and was reunited with his beloved wife, Jean on
December 30, 2024, after a short illness. Bob was born in Mineral, NB
on July 20, 1931, Bob was one of 9 children born to the late Bartlett
and Flora (Hargrove) of Mineral NB.
Bob loved growing up on the Monquart and often spoke of the many
memories he shared with the Ruff’s, Lloyd’s and
McCullough’s.
Bob grew up quickly, losing his dad at the age of 9. He moved into
Bath as a teen to attend High School and joined the Canadian Air Force
for a short time following school.
Bob, and several of his friends and brothers, moved to Oshawa in the
50’s to work at the prestigious GM plant. It was on summer
vacation at home that Bob met Jean Crain of Beechwood. They were
married in 1960 and made Oshawa their home. Their family soon grew to
include a son, Brent, and a daughter, Cynthia (Cindy). All the people
and places that mattered most to Bob and Jean were back in New
Brunswick, so they moved home in ’69.
At home Bob worked as a bus driver and carpenter. As a carpenter
Bob’s creativity and perfectionism shaped his work. Many
buildings throughout Carleton and Victoria Counties stand as a
testament to his hard work and craftmanship.
When not working Bob and Jean loved to camp, snowmobile and four
wheel. A perfect day for them involved boiling the kettle “out
back somewheres”.
Early in their married life Bob and Jean decided to make God the
center of their home. They faithfully served the Lord and were
thrilled to watch their children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren follow in their steps.
Bob lost his beloved Jean in 2023, and his joy has never been quite as
full since.
His family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of
the Everett Chalmers Hospital and the URVH in Waterville for their
exemplary care. Their support has made our journey much easier.
Bob was predeceased by Jean Crain, his wife of 63 years, his parents
Bartlett and Flora, siblings Arthur, Lila, Avery and wife Marion
Giberson, Juanita and husband Lloyd Bowater, Phyllis and husband Don
Giberson, and Lowell and wife Joan Hall.
He is survived by his son Brent (Connie) and daughter Cindy (Lew)
Denny; grandchildren Nathan (Pamela) Denny, Shane (Michelle)
Demerchant, Jenna (Clay) Brink, Colby (Jessica) Demerchant and Matthew
(Melissa) Denny; great-grandchildren Zachary, Nicholas, Logan, Zane,
Arya, Kolten, Kowen, Taylor, Lyla, Evangeline, Miller, Luke and Rory;
brother Keith (Mary) and Sister Myrna (Peter) Paccione and many
nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 6-8 pm from
