On December 22nd, Roland Bourgeois passed away at his family home after a long battle with an unforgiving degenerative disease. Born in Moncton in 1953, he was the beloved son of the late Blair Bourgeois and the late Angela (LeBlanc) Bourgeois.
Roland’s life journey was a musical one.
As a trumpet player, he shared the stage with accomplished and up-and-coming Acadian and Canadian musicians. Music lovers will surely remember weekly rendez-vous at the Caveau with Jazz Generation, as well as performances of Feu Vert, a jazz fusion group that he formed with his sons.
During his 39 years as a music teacher, Roland was able to help youth in Toronto, Fredericton and South-Eastern New-Brunswick cultivate an appreciation for music. His students will remember him as a passionate and nurturing teacher who was generous with his time.
Upon his retirement from teaching, Roland invested himself in musical projects, composing and releasing three albums as a bandleader. He also launched a series of concerts at the Centre Culturel Aberdeen featuring famous jazz musicians. Much too soon, his illness interrupted his momentum.
Roland leaves behind his wife, Renée (nee LaPointe); his sons of whom he was very proud, André (Matar) and Alain (Maxine); his sisters, Céleste (Michel) and Charlotte (Pierre); his brother, Robert (Lucille); his sisters-in-law, Odette (Gérard) and Anne; his brother-in-law, Jean-Marc; his aunt, Fernande (Paul); his cousins, his nieces, his nephews, his grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral. The family will receive your condolences and, above all, your fondest memories of Roland during visitation to be held at the Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative, 363 Amirault Stree, Dieppe, on Sunday, December 29th, from 2pm to 4pm, and from 7pm to 9pm. In the spring, the family will gather for a graveside service.
In memory of Roland, donations can be made to the Fondation Louis-J.-Robichaud or to Sistema New-Brunswick.
Roland’s family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful team at Extra-mural Blanche-Bourgeois, as well as to his caregivers, Nathalie Drisdelle and Donel Hébert; their support and professional care made it possible for Roland to spend his final days in his home, surrounded by music and loved ones.
The family invites you to sign a book of condolences at: www.funerairepassagefuneral.ca.
Arrangements under the professional care of Passage Funeral Cooperative and Cremation Center.
