Moncton, NB – Emile Collette, 83, of Moncton passed away on July 31.
Born in Moncton on April 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Honore and Lucie Collette. He is predeceased by his wife Loretta and survived by his daughter, Chantal and his son-in-law, Andre Brun.
Emile loved being active. Throughout his youth, he played hockey and was the captain for the St-Anselme Canadians that won the Evangeline trophy in 1964.
Emile remained active during his adult life by exercising most days of the week. He especially loved walking daily with his late wife Loretta during his retirement and he was ahead of his time for “getting in his daily steps.” He was also an active parent and loved to retell stories of playing hide-and-seek with his daughter and her best friend, Nicole Leblanc.
Emile was also very fond of music and had varied musical tastes, from Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Burl Ives, ABBA and Boney M., for example. Emile loved them all. He was also fond of Christmas movies, reading mysteries and about near death experiences, and had a sweet tooth that sometimes only chocolate could satisfy, especially from Laura Secord or Rogers Chocolates.
Emile believed that one of his greatest accomplishments was returning to school after he had dropped out of high school. He spoke fondly of the nun who gave him a second chance at an education. Due to his tenacity and dedication, he graduated from high school and then from higher education. He spent his career teaching at various schools and colleges and retired as a professor at the University of Moncton.
His family would like to especially thank Carmel Brun for visiting him weekly and making him laugh while keeping him company. The family also would like to thank all the staff at ProTem for providing excellent care and comfort during Emile’s stay, Nicole and Mario Leblanc, Marthe Gautreau, and Louise Jardine.
Per Emile’s wishes, there will not be a funeral or a celebration of life ceremony.
