Patricia “Patsy” Keays
1944-2024
Patricia “Patsy” Keays passed away
peacefully on April 22, 2024, at the CHSLD –
Matapédia at the age of 79. Born November 3, 1944, Patsy
was the youngest of three daughters to the late Roger Keays and Jean
Fair.
Patsy’s childhood in Pointe-à-la-Garde was filled
with love and laughter, thanks to her mother, uncle Cameron Fair, and
her dear sisters, Eileen Myles, and the late Margaret Myles. She also
shared a special bond with her cousins, Audrey Downs and Richie Price.
The memories they created together were cherished and passed down to
those she loved.
Patsy’s marriage to the late Robert “Bobby”
Mann on November 16, 1963, was a testament to her commitment to
family. They raised three wonderful children: David, Linda (Ripley),
and Sandra (Brisk). Pasty and Bobby also opened their home and
extended their family to Tammy Trayah and Tracey Lynd.
Above all, Patsy will be remembered as a nurturing and loving
mother. Her children recall her as an outgoing, funny, and hardworking
woman, always ready with a warm smile and a comforting word. Patsy’s
love for gardening reflected her nurturing nature, and her beautiful
home in Oak Bay was a testament to her care, always blooming with
flowers. The fruits of her labor filled her cupboards with pickles,
jams, and preserves year-round. Pasty loved hosting parties; her home
became the meeting place for many family holidays, events, and
gatherings. She always offered every guest a cookie and a cup of King
Cole tea, and all loved her bread and tea biscuits.
Patsy’s life was filled with faith and selfless
acts of service to others. She took care of her mother, uncle, and
in-laws in their time of need. Patsy was also an elder in the United
Church and an active member of the U.C.W. and choir. For over twenty
years, Pasty taught life skills to special-needs students at Escuminac
Intermediate School. She formed a close bond with her students,
helping them to thrive in adulthood.
After Bobby passed away on May 17th, 2004, she married the
late Lee Cunningham. Together, the two enjoyed a quiet retirement,
helping raise her loving grandchildren. They enjoyed nine years
together, traveling and riding on Lee’s
motorcycle.
The family is comforted knowing she was in caring hands, and
they would like to thank the staff at
CHSLD—Matapédia.
Pasty will be dearly missed by all those who knew her, and is
now reunited with Bobby, Lee, and her grandson Vance Jr. She is
survived by her sister Eileen, her son David and Brandi’s
family (Taylor, Aaron, and their children Maddox, Penelope, and ZeZe),
her daughter Linda and John’s family (Emily and Jack), and
her daughter Sandra and Vance’s family (Aaron, Frank, Amber,
Marie-Lee, Alex, and their children Elexis, Brylee, Carson, Donna,
Layla, Alona, Noah, and Liam).
A private celebration of Patricia’s life will be held at a
later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation and the Cancer Society.
