Listen
In loving memory of Stephen “Steve” Robert Betts of Bathurst, who passed away suddenly on Sunday November 5, 2023, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 68.
Born in Middleton NS, he was the son of the late Norman Patrick and Ferna Joice (McLeod) Betts.
Steve spent most of his life in Ontario and has lived in Bathurst for the past 19 years.
He is survived by his wife Colleen (Ford) Betts, son Jamie (Julie) Betts and two grandsons Jaiden and Tavin of Ontario, one daughter Crystal Ford (Mike), and five grandchildren: Juelz, Zabina, Cruz, Rose, Axel, and Patricia Struthers (Friend) of Ontario.
He is also survived by five siblings: Ted (Karen) of Alberta, Kevin of Ontario, Jamie (Tracy) of Ontario, Shari (JR) of Ontario, Lori of Ontario, as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Steve was a genuinely gentle soul who loved and adored all his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
One of his goals in life was to make everyone feel special. He did this by calling all the ladies his little sweet pea and all the gents, big man/big guy and offering a smile, hug, handshake/fist pump, and/or kiss on the cheek or hand.
He had many life passions but some of his biggest were off road mud truck racing, ¼ mile drag racing, and playing golf with his son.
Steve was a huge sports fan and hated to miss any games. If he wasn’t watching the Leafs, Jays, or Raptors, he could be found looking out the window in the porch being the neighborhood watch.
During Covid, Steve lost his right leg. Even though he was months in the hospital, he never lost his sense of humour or smile. He would often joke about getting a scooter and racing it. Once he was healed and was released from the hospital, that is exactly what he did!
He was often spotted cruising down the sidewalk or on a big scooter adventure with his wife, which he would often leave behind in a cloud of dust while laughing all the way.
Nothing could stop Steve from smiling and having fun!
Steve truly was an angel in disguise whose huge smile and charm will be missed by so many.
There will be no visitations at the Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
