It is with sadness yet very fond memories of love and laughter that we announce the passing of Raymond Stever, 87, which occurred on Thursday July 18, 2024, at the Robert L. Knowles Veteran’s Unit.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Andrew and Ovila (Chiasson) Stever.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mabel (Knowles), daughter Susan, grandchildren Morgan and Nicholas Wells, Amanda and Jarrett Wood, brother Wesley (Geneva) Stever and sister Rita (late Thomas) Hunter. He also is survived by a precious great grandchild Magnus who put a new sparkle in his baby blue eyes.
He was pre-deceased by his daughter Christine (Paul Wood), brothers Gordon (Bernadette) and Robert (Veronica) Stever. Family was so important and he was constantly looking out for all of us. Always a hand in his pocket giving to others who needed help, driving anyone/anywhere they needed to go.
Living his whole life in Bathurst, he needed to be moving. Owner of Stever Fuels for several years, he then went on to his favorite job as a school bus driver until retirement. We still get comments of “the best bus driver ever”.
He loved sports and never missed a Titan game when he was active, a loyal Blue Jays fan to the end. He followed all his grandchildren’s various activities and “you could always call Gramp”. A lover of food, he could be spotted at local restaurants for a hearty breakfast or lunch, and even up until his passing was a huge fan of restaurant treats and take-out.
His last years were spent being spoiled at the RL Knowles Veteran’s Unit by caring staff members. Volunteers and musicians that came in to perform kept his toes-a-tappin’ and a grin on his face.
There will be no service at this time with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
Donations in Raymond’s memory can be made to the Bathurst Animal Shelter or a charity of the donor’s choice.
