The late Zoran was born in Serbia, city of Niš (pronounced Nish), on March 31, 2034. Nish is a beautiful city in the South of Serbia, famous for, among other things, being a birthplace of the Romain emperor Constantin, who was one of the founders of Christian religion.
Zoran spent his early years suffering the horrors of the World War II and extreme poverty. After the end of the war, in Autumn of 1944, he was sent by the Yugoslavian Red Cross to Bulgaria to recover. He spent two years there with his brother Milan.
After he grew up, he trained as a locksmith and started working in Nish. His family was poor and both parents unable to work, so he decided to leave his country. With God’s help he managed to reach Canada. Canada became his new home, and he spent 60 years in this lovely country. He made friends there and earned the respect of his community.
As he grew older, his wish to return home to Serbia was getting stronger. He started to prepare for the move, but unfortunately, his death came sooner.
When Zoran arrived in Winnipeg, he was told work on the railroad was available in Revelstoke, British Columbia, and headed west. He worked there for a time but was unable to continue due to an asthma condition. He then went to Edmonton, Alberta, where his fondness of playing snooker started, a fondness that lasted the rest of his life. He met and remained friends with some of the best snooker players in Canada.
When he returned to Winnipeg, he worked at Louis’s Billiards on Henderson Highway and became longtime friends of the owners, Louis, and Anne. Zoran also worked on the Trans Canada Gas Pipeline as it was being through Manitoba.
Zoran was a serious fan of the Toronto Blue Jays; Winnipeg’s hockey team, the Winnipeg Jets; and W.W.E. Wrestling. He was also a fanatical fan of Novak Djokovic the tennis player.
After retiring, Zoran would be at Bourbon Billiards nearly everyday. With his eyesight failing and some difficulty walking, he would practice on a 6’ x 12’ snooker table. Zoran was also an adopted grandfather to many families in his apartment block where he lived for 21 years.
Zoran’s friends were deeply saddened to here of his passing.
According to his family’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held in his home country of Serbia. With God’s help, his remains will soon return home, where he will be put to eternal rest. May he rest in Peace.
