WILLIAM EDWARD ETSELL
22 MARCH 1961 – 23 FEBRUARY 2024
It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, Bill (William) Etsell on February 23rd, 2024 at the age of 62.
Bill was easy-going and nothing seemed to faze him, as many would attest to with their frustration. He never seemed to be too concerned about anything whether it involved daily news, local events or even his own health, he took everything in stride.
He was a brother to four older sisters and one younger brother. His sisters loved playing tricks on Bill as children, but he was not easily upset as everything would roll off his back as he just turned and laughed, much to the chagrin of his sisters. He was always there for his younger brother whether it was as kids in Boy Scouts or later as adults when he always had advice regarding automotive repairs.
Bill was also talented when it came to electronics and it came in useful for his family’s technical problems with computers and software, helping his sisters out on several occasions.
Some of Bill’s joys in life involved reading, music and following all kinds of programs on TV. He also loved to host weekly Sunday dinners at his house as well as all the holiday events throughout the year. Bill was always an extremely generous person and was always willing to lend a hand whether it was hosting his family and friends or sharing his knowledge.
Bill’s lifelong passion was his job at Superior Brake and Clutch, where he worked for 46 years, as a mechanic at the beginning and managing until 2019, when his failing health kept him home. He missed his customers, whom he strived to provide excellent service to on a daily basis. His lifelong co-worker, mentor and best friend Grant was a true friend who strived to keep
Bill updated with his weekly visits and helped him out on numerous occasions attending appointments and maintaining daily wellness checks.
A huge thanks to all the home care workers who cared for Bill in the last 4 years, and my oldest sister’s friend Christine, who also cared for Bill on several occasions.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lymphedema Association of Manitoba, Diabetes Manitoba or CancerCare Manitoba.

  1. I met Bill in high school and we became lifelong friends. He was a good and loyal person. We gave him the nickname “Mr. Bill” after the character on Saturday Night Live and that stuck with him his whole life. I miss him already and will always.

    Rest peacefully my friend.

  3. I started patronizing Superior Brake and Clutch over 40 years ago when I was told of a great auto repair shop two guys were running. This is where I first met Bill and his lifelong friend Grant. These two guys were the dictionary definition of friends. Grant would tend to the mechanics and Bill would run the front end and deal with the customers. He was the ultimate professional and never lost his cool no matter the situation. He had the diplomacy of a king. and every customer who he dealt with left the shop happier than before they went in. I was personally devastated when I learned he could no longer physically carry out his duties at Superior Brake and Clutch.
His passing was very sad and I miss seeing his smiling face when I walk in the door. My wife and I offer our condolences to Grant, Mechanic Mike, Craig, Erin and all the rest of the crew at Superior/Napa. We toast you Bill with a glass of dark rum and coke, and may you rest in peace.
