It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful Selamawit Alehign, who left us on May 22, 2024, at the age of 28.
Selam was a proud mother, a wonderful daughter, the best aunt, a loving sister, an amazing niece, and a one-of-a-kind friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She took immense pride in being a mother to her three children and loved them more than anything. Selam’s love for them was evident throughout their lives.
Selam leaves behind her long-term partner and father of her children, Paul Valdez, and their three children: Terome Valdez, Selena Valdez, and Bonita Valdez.
She is also survived by her parents, Wibishet Alehign and Kuribachew Mengesga, and her aunt Minishnesh Mengesha who supported her like a second mother and loved her unconditionally; her sister, Bezawit Alehign, and her two nephews, Nahom Thomas and Kidus Thomas, and niece, Belen Thomas; her brother, Willy Gooding; and all her aunties, uncles, numerous cousins, and close friends who never left her side.

Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, 353 Mountain Avenue. Interment at Brookside Cemetery following.
