Obituary of RAYMOND JOSEPH HENRI CADIEUX
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Joseph Henri Cadieux on December 16th, 2024, at the age of 91 at St. Boniface Hospital after a lengthy battle with dementia. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Adrienne La Plume (late Paul); sons Gérard Cadieux (Thaungrat) and Maurice Cadieux (Heather); grandchildren Xavier, Naomi, Sebastien, and Gabriel; brother Tony Cadieux; step-sisters Huguette Paré (late Joseph) and Claire Tessier (late Marcel); along with many relatives and friends.
He is predeceased by wife Jane (née Sidor), parents Henri and Olina Cadieux, his sisters Juliette Tanguay (late Jack) and Pierrette Roussel (André); and his brothers Edgar Cadieux (late Anne), Guy Cadieux (late Thérèse), Edmond Cadieux, Patrick Cadieux (Sandy), Dennis Cadieux, Jean-Roch Cadieux, and Robert Cadieux.
Raymond grew up in Vankleek Hill, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba when he had joined the Canadian Armed Forces, first in artillery before spending nearly 30 years in the Royal Canadian Air Command Band as a clarinet player. He transitioned to the cinema industry for nearly 25 years, eventually becoming the City Manager for Winnipeg with Cineplex Odeon Theatres. He eventually retired after 5 years in lay-up production at Boeing. He was happily married to his wife Jane for nearly 60 years before her passing.
A proud father and grandfather, Ray, as he was known by many, thoroughly enjoyed travelling the world with the RCAF band. As a devout Catholic, he made friends at every parish he attended, greeting everyone with his warm smile and welcoming demeanour. He loved nature and the outdoors, especially gardens and flowers, and in his later years loved catching a good nap in fresh air and sunshine. An avid animal lover, he could be found walking one of his own cocker spaniels that he cared for throughout the years or even walking one of his neighbor’s dogs on their behalf. He was a die-hard Montreal Canadiens, Winnipeg Jets, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan.
A special thanks to all of the staff at Actionmarguerite and in particular Unité Marguerite for their compassionate care during his final year with us as he battled dementia.
The prayer service for Raymond will take place on Thursday, January 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, followed by a funeral service on Friday, January 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Ave. in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Raymond may be made to the Actionmarguerite Foundation.
