MEREDITH ELIZABETH PATRICIA MIDDLEBROOK
(NEE CHEOP)
On June 21, 2024, we lost our beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister in a tragic accident. Our lives are so much emptier with her passing.
Mere was born in Winnipeg on July 20, 1989, on a hot prairie afternoon. From her earliest days she was a joy to be around – insatiably curious, quick to laugh, rarely with a frown. As she grew up the other traits that would define her emerged: she was unfailingly positive, reliable, compassionate and always ready to help. Meredith loved the outdoors and nature, and we will always treasure the special memories of summers spent at her Mom’s family cottage at Big Whiteshell Lake.
Meredith grew up in St. James and graduated as part of the last class from Silver Heights Collegiate. She attended the University of Manitoba and became a registered nurse, working at Stony Mountain Correctional Institution and St. Boniface Hospital.
In 2015 she found love and a lifelong friendship when she met Dylan. They were married in Winnipeg on another hot July day in 2018 and a year and a half later moved to Huntsville, Ontario, close to where Dylan was from. Although she loved Muskoka and her life there, she remained a prairie girl at heart and always wore a pendant in the shape of Manitoba around her neck.
In January 2021 Claire was born, bringing the same joy and happiness into her and Dylan’s life that she had earlier brought into her parents’ and sister’s. A working mother, she juggled her responsibilities as Chief of Health Services at Beaver Creek Institution in Gravenhurst with Claire’s gymnastics, swimming and, most recently, baseball. Over the last year, Dylan and Mere added an addition to their home, doing almost all of the work themselves with help from family and friends. Still, she found time to volunteer and give back to the community.
Meredith is survived by her husband and best friend, Dylan, her daughter Claire, her mother Darlene, her father David (Pat) and her sister Adrienne (Derrick). She will be greatly missed by them and by Dylan’s parents, Glenn and Tracey, her Uncle Al (Grace), Dylan’s sister Amanda, his nephews Jackson and Jace, her close friend Cailin and by her many other friends and coworkers in Manitoba and Ontario. Mere was predeceased by her much-loved grandmother Patricia and granduncle Ron.
Mere has been cremated and, as she would have wanted, there will be no funeral. Instead, celebrations of her life will be held in Winnipeg and Muskoka at a later date. Instead of sending flowers please consider donating in her memory to The Winnipeg Humane Society – Meredith loved animals – or the charity of your choice.
Ultimately a person’s life is defined not by what you may have done but how you have touched the lives of others. Meredith, with her kindness and compassion has left an indelible impression in the hearts of her family and friends and has made our lives so much richer. We are fortunate that every day a part of Mere lives on with us in her daughter, who shares that sense of joy and optimism that animated her Mom. We will miss Mere and hold her ever close.
