It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Massimo Di Geronimo on December 27, 2024, at the age of 51, surrounded by his family. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on August 19, 1973, Massimo was a loving husband, devoted father, son, brother, and a dear friend to all who knew him. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering support left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
Massimo is survived by his beloved wife Deseree, his children Ava, Bianca, and Dante, his parents Antonio and Rosina Di Geronimo, and his brother Vittorio Di Geronimo. He will also be deeply missed by his in-laws: brothers-in-law Jason Sim (Carey), Chris Sim (Jasmine), and sister-in-law Natasha Duncalfe (Jared), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins across Canada, the US, and Italy. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Corinne Sim.
Massimo’s devotion to his faith and family was the cornerstone of his life. He and Deseree were married at Calvary Temple in 2003, and the family continued to attend and serve there for many years. Massimo believed strongly in raising his children with values rooted in faith, kindness, and love, ensuring they grew up with a strong sense of community and tradition.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Massimo had a special fondness for hockey, football, and WWE wrestling. He was an avid supporter of the Quebec Nordiques (now the Colorado Avalanche), the Miami Dolphins, and the Winnipeg Jets. Whether he was playing poker, Italian cards, or organizing infamous sports drafts, Massimo’s competitive spirit was ever-present, often accompanied by a plate of nachos and wings.
Massimo was a proud graduate of the University of Manitoba with a Commerce Degree and spent 16 years as a Benefits Processing Officer with Veterans Affairs Canada. Before that, he worked as a Financial Investment Officer with the Royal Bank for 8 years. He also worked for Coca-Cola, and UPS. He was known for his infectious enthusiasm, especially when organizing events like potluck days, and for the friendships he fostered with his colleagues.
At home, Massimo was meticulous and took great pride in ensuring his house and cars were always in pristine condition. He cherished spending time with his family-whether attending his children’s sporting events or simply enjoying quiet moments together. One of the family’s most cherished traditions was Saturday pancake days, which will live on in their hearts.
Massimo’s legacy of love, care, and consistency will continue to guide and inspire his family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care team at St. Boniface Hospital for their support and compassion during Massimo’s final days.
Visitation 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2024, followed by a Funeral Service 11:00 AM at Calvary Temple, 440 Hargrave St., Winnipeg, Manitoba. Interment to follow at Thomson In the Park Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg. A reception will be held 2:00 p.m. at Centro Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Massimo’s memory to The Dream Factory (thedreamfactory.ca), a charity close to their hearts.
Massimo is now in his heavenly home, watching over us all. His love, strength, and legacy will never be forgotten.
