Lydia Voth
May 18, 1926 to May 12, 2024
After a brief illness Lydia passed peacefully at The Grace Hospital Hospice.
Lydia will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her 4 children, Kurt (Ruth) Voth, Gerry (Eva) Voth, Erika (Darrell) Bracken and John (Penny) Voth. Her greatest joy were her 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Rob Bracken, Trish (Scott) Brown, Jenn (Rhys) Van Kemenade, Sean (Sandra) Bracken, Andrew Voth, Matt (Aubrey) Voth, Jeremy Voth, Ashley (Colin) Butts, Kyle Voth and Kaitlyn Voth) and 12 great-grandchildren. Lydia is also survived by 2 sisters, Agatha Dyck and Margaret Funk) and 1 sister-in-law Ann Friesen.
Lydia was predeceased by her parents Aron and Margaretha Thiessen, husband Henry, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and so many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews and dear friends. What a warm welcome she must be receiving now!
Lydia, born the fourth of seven children, attended Shoenfelder Mennonite church her whole life. She was baptized upon confession of her faith in 1945. She was always an active church member, singing in the choir in her younger years and participating in the ladies’ groups for many years as well.
Lydia moved into Winnipeg and roomed with friends and family while working at a sewing factory for 4 years prior to marrying Henry Voth and moving to his family farm in 1949. The farm was sold and their family of six moved to Winnipeg in 1973. Lydia then took up housekeeping which she continued to do for 25 years. She was a favourite among her customers as well.
In her later years she enjoyed her hobbies: knitting, puzzling and reading. Every Christmas the family enjoyed new mittens, slippers, wash cloths or potholders she made for us.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at the Grace Hospital where she spent 2 weeks prior to her move into the Grace Hospice until her final day. The staff at the hospice were wonderful to her and we want to thank them all for their kindness and caring.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lydia’s memory can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Manitoba or to the Grace Hospital Hospice.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. A funeral service and interment will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 17 at Schoenfelder Mennonite Church in Pigeon Lake, Manitoba.
