It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Joyce. She peacefully passed away at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, surrounded by her daughters after a brief battle with pneumonia.
Joyce was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and spent her entire 93 years on Dudley Avenue. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband David of 33 years, her parents Edward and Emily, and her brother Maurice. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Theresa (Mark) and Sherri (Steve), grandchildren Travis and Kaytlyn, great-grandson Colton (whom she adored and referred to as her favourite!), and her brother Jack. Many family members and friends will fondly remember her spirited personality and love for life.
In 1995 at the age of 64, Mom became widowed when her loving husband David lost his battle with cancer. She embraced independence and her confidence blossomed as she navigated life on her own. Known for her sociable nature, Joyce touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
Throughout her life, she demonstrated incredible resilience, overcoming cancer twice, a stroke, and living with COPD. Despite numerous hospitalizations in recent years, she always returned home with unwavering determination. Sadly, this last hospital stay proved too challenging for her.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to her family physician, Dr. Permack, and his team, Home Care, Dr. Madi, and the home oxygen program for their dedicated support, allowing Mom to maintain her independence for as long as possible. We also express deep appreciation to the medical teams at St. Boniface Hospital, particularly those in the ER and on the 4th floor, for their exceptional care and compassion during her final days.
In accordance with her wishes, Joyce has been cremated, and no funeral service will be held. Instead, a celebration of her life will be arranged at a later date.
