Elsie LaJambe Obituary
Elsie LaJambe, a remarkable woman of Cree and Métis descent, touched the lives of many through her unwavering dedication to education, community, and family. Born on April 5, 1939, in Grouard, Alberta, she embarked on a journey that would leave an indelible mark on those who knew her.
As a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elsie’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. She shared her wisdom and compassion with countless students during her tenure as a teacher at Opaskwayak First Nation. Her commitment to education didn’t end there; she later played a pivotal role in training new teachers through the BUNTEP program. She also achieved her Master’s Degree in Education later in life, as goal she had set for herself.
Elsie’s passion for community service led her to volunteer at The Pas Friendship Center, where she made a positive impact on the lives of many. Additionally, her long-standing position as a board member for the Manitoba Metis Federation allowed her to advocate for Indigenous rights and cultural preservation.
After retiring, Elsie explored new horizons. She spent time in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and High Prairie, Alberta, but her heart always drew her back to Winnipeg. There, she cherished moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elsie’s legacy lives on—a testament to her resilience, kindness, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we hold her close within our hearts, knowing that her spirit will continue to guide us.
Left to mourn Elsie’s passing are her five children Lorette (Tony) George, Veronica LaJambe, Deanna (David) LaJambe, Theresa (Lawrence) Marsden, and Derek (Heather) LaJambe; beloved grandchildren Shannon, Travis, Evan, Taylor, Jennifer, Desi, Kyro (Brooke-Lynne); great grandchildren Natasha, Kinsleigh, Casey, Brendan, Anthony, Lucas, Peyton; siblings Dorothy (Peter) Courtereille, Edna (Charles) Haslam, Caroline (Bud) Burke, James “Sonny” (Joyce, Diane) Lamouche, Janet (Robert) Clark, Kenny (Sandra) Lamouche, Michael (Margaret) Lamouche, Larry (Marlene) Lamouche, Rodger (Sharon) Lamouche, Darlene (Dan) Plamondon, Rusty (Jeannine) Lamouche, Marvin (Bernie) Lamouche.
