It is with immense sorrow that we announce that Dustin Thommey Hatcher (ne Mark Brian Broderick Irving), aged 39 years, and born on February 22, 1984, died suddenly and tragically on November 28, 2023.
He is survived by his children, Aaliyah, Tatyanna, and Tavayent, their mothers, as well as his wife, Jacqueline Hatcher, along with her children and grandchildren, with whom he was involved in their lives as stepfather and step-grandfather to her three grandchildren. He is also survived by his and Jacqueline’s fur babies Portia and Bella. He is also survived by his six siblings, as well as his nieces and nephews in addition to his grand-niece and grand-nephews. His loss comes as a complete shock to the family.
Dustin/Mark is predeceased by his parents, Herbert Irving (AKA Lamont Hatcher) and Monica Wallen, as well as his recently deceased older brother Hugart Grant, who left this earth two weeks before him.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dustin, from the beginning, was an athlete. He taught himself ice hockey and could often be found challenging older neighborhood kids in games of the street hockey. His parents enrolled him in soccer as well as Tae Kwon Do, the latter he engaged in briefly before his real passion came through: football, which he played into his late teens. He always came in first in track and field, making records of his own. He possessed a silly side with his demonstrated humor, making people laugh with funny noises, or re-sharing things he saw on TV. In addition to his playing sports, he always made himself available to tease his second last sibling. He was a master at carpentry, one who could take raw material and build it into something amazing. His wife recalls a time where he had helped her mother make a garage door fit and appear as though it was built in. This was an interest that he held as a child, where he would constantly root around in his father’s garage to build anything or take apart his toys to discover how they worked.
As he grew older, the community to which he gravitated will remember him as a staunch man; one who always sought to help others and displayed inordinate amounts of empathy for those who were in need. Also, he always made time to see family when he was able to, and reveled at being around his older sisters, who all loved him in their own ways. His wife enjoyed every moment they shared together. A man of few spoken words, you could always guarantee that he was listening when you spoke, and that anything left unsaid spoke of the peace that one could gain from his presence.
Although we all wish that we could have had one more minute, hour, or day with him, we will continue to cherish the short time he spent with us all, and express gratitude that he has found eternal peace. Our lives are enriched having had him in it.
