IN LOVING MEMORY OF DONALD JOSEPH DOUPE,
DEVOTED FATHER AND HUSBAND
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a man who was an admired father, a devoted husband, and a dedicated member of his parish communities. Donald Joseph Doupe, age 84, departed from this world on February 23, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and unwavering commitment.
Donald Doupe was born on September 13, 1939, in La Vallee, Ontario and from the very beginning, his life was a testament to the power of faith and endurance. As a loving husband, he shared a remarkable journey of companionship and support with his adored wife, Adele (née Scheirer). Together, they built a foundation of love that withstood the tests of time.
His early life was marked by his passion for sports, which included baseball and four years on the Muskie football team. In his early 20’s he became one of the first certified scuba divers in Northwestern Ontario, using that skill to help retrieve vehicles and snow machines that had fallen through the ice. An avid Model Railroader for decades, his hobbies and interests ranged from winemaking to gardening.
In 1965, Donald married the love of his life, Adele, and the two embarked on a journey together that would span over 58 years. Their love story was one of unending commitment, shared dreams, and unwavering support. Together, Don and Adele would create a home filled with warmth, reverence, humour, and a profound sense of family.
As a father, Donald was a pillar of strength and support for his children. He put his heart into providing for those under his charge, and his dedication served as a compass, steering his family through the challenges of life. He took great joy in witnessing the accomplishments of his children, finding fulfillment in their happiness and success. By his example, he instilled in them the values of kindness, resilience, and the importance of family bonds.
His presence in the community was equally impactful. As a resident of Fort Frances, Ontario, Donald worked at Boise Cascade for 27 years. He was an active and involved member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, serving as the Grand Knight of Rainy Lake Council for several years. He continued this dedication to his faith after moving to Winnipeg in 2007, acting as a Eucharistic minister in service to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Don was known for his generosity, compassion, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He contributed his time and talents to various community initiatives, including the CNIB, Diabetes Canada, Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, and countless others. As a universal donor, Donald supplied blood to the Canadian Red Cross for 60 consecutive years and was honoured with the Red Cross Humanitarian Award in recognition of his service. He will be remembered as a model of earnest duty and life-affirming action.
He leaves to mourn, his loving spouse Adele, his brother Clifford (Brenda), and his adoring children, Melissa (David), Paul, Leah (Darin), and Andrea (Kevin).
Donald is also survived by his grandchildren: Tairyn, Taomi, Ariston, Alycia, Rayen, Mattias, Liam, Sarah, Sophie, Alexis, and Danielle, as well as his great-grandchildren: Aedon, River, and Grayson.
Don was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary, and his brothers, John “Ernest” and William “Edward”.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 10:00 am, located at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd, in Winnipeg.
For those who wish to attend the viewing, we will gather together half an hour prior, beginning at 9:30 am. Interment will follow immediately after the service, where he will be laid to rest at the Assumption Catholic Cemetery at 3990 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
May Donald’s soul find eternal peace and may the memories of his character and humble service leave an indelible mark on the world that remains behind.
