With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Debbie Mathwig on June 24, 2024. She is survived by her parents Rudy and Lilly Mathwig; siblings Barbara (Derek) Rolstone; Karen (Daryl) Johnston; nieces and nephews: Rylee and Jaiden Rolstone; Tyler (Sarah – Carter and Brooks); and Raylene Johnston (Jake).
Debbie was a beautifully devoted woman of powerful faith, love, laughter, kindness, exceptional and gracious generosity and support to her entire family. Family was the center and core of Debbies life and especially her nieces and nephews who she loved unconditionally as her own. Debbie was the center that brought all her family together through endless family traditions, celebrations of each milestone, Holiday Traditions, endless game nights, and fun in the sun at the family cottages and vacations. She welcomed everyone to the table and was so delighted with Jake (Raylene) who immediately became family. Debbie was always there to support any need and shoulder everyone could count on that extended to great lengths. Endless nights of chatter, laughter and specialty dishes such as her famous crepes, smores, nuts and bolts and more…Debbie had a deep devotion and respect to her parents Lilly and Rudy who shared endless dinners, and time together.
Debbie devoted 30 years to Accounting at Boyd Autobody. We would like to express a special and sincere Thank You to Boyd Autobody for all the support to Debbie and her family during her time of recent illness. She expressed so much love for all her staff who became her family, and she had a special gratitude to Abe Samiento and all the Executive staff.
Debbie spent time living in Edmonton Alberta where she shared many memories with the Rolstone Family living in Fort McMurray. Endless trips to the famous West Edmonton Mall, Chuck E Cheese, amazing Italian Restaurants, and fun sleepovers.
Debbie loved to travel with friends and family overseas to Germany where her parents immigrated from; Munich, Hamburg, Hanover, Kassel, to name a few. She also traveled for several family events to Mexico, the Caribbean islands, Florida, and several visits to the West Coast.
Cottage life was a huge part of Debbie’s life at Grand Beach and Kenora, with wonderful memories with the Johnston Family of cannonballs off the boathouse rooftop, family charades, games, and her famous breakfast pancakes and crepes for the families to enjoy. The cottages were a wonderful place to enjoy with her parents and other nieces Rylee and Jaiden.
Debbie enjoyed spending time watching her great nephews Carter and Brooks grow. Laughing at the cute things, they would say and do. She enjoyed many family gatherings with Tyler and Sarah’s family.
Debbie, “Your great love was the center of our family that continuously brought us all together in all the beautiful traditions you taught all of us and we will always keep those traditions alive. You were the glue that held us all together, and your spirit will live on through those beautiful traditions and dishes. Thank you for celebrating with us”.
May your spirit live on for endless celebrations for generations to come.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday July 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at EJ Coutu Funeral Home,680 Archibald. Presided by Pastor Bjorn Meinhardt, from St Peter Lutheran Church. The family would like to extend a welcome for donations to St. Peters Memorial Fund, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, and Heart and Stroke Foundation Canada.
Eternal Rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
