Claire Brodeur (née Leclaire), 95, of Altona formerly of St. Adolphe passed away peacefully on Friday June 14, 2024, at Boundary Trails Health Centre. Mom is survived by her children Bernard, Micheline, Marjolaine, Michel (Brenda), Jacques, and Jocelyne, 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Mom is also survived by her siblings Noella, Clément, Fabiola, Clarisse, and Ronald. Claire was predeceased by her husband Charles (Charlie) of 63 years, her sons-in-law Don Boone and Peter Putschker, and her sister Isabelle.
She was born in St. Adolphe and lived there most of her life. Mom and Dad ran a Shell dealership there for 29 yrs. When they retired, Mom worked at the Pic ’n Nic Restaurant and as a caterer until the owners, Joe and Lorraine Brodeur, also retired. Mom was an enthusiastic member of le Club Amical until they moved to Winnipeg. She moved to Altona in February 2019, to be closer to her primary caregivers.
A life-long lover of plants and flowers, Mom had extensive flower beds on their property throughout the years. She spent much of her time both before and after retirement with knitting needles or a crochet hook in hand. Mom will be remembered for the many toques, mittens, and scarves she made and donated to Koats for Kids, as well her baking and craft contributions to many fundraising events over the years, including for the #3234 Manitoba Horse Army Cadet Corps. Mom was also an avid plastic bag recycler, turning them into crocheted bags of many sizes for a variety of uses. Mom was really proud when her grandson Colin asked her to be his science project on recycling, explaining how to cut the bags into strips, then crocheting them into bags.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Tanja Borchers and the staff of The Garden Apartments in Altona for the kindness and care they have shown to Mom.
A graveside service will be held in St. Adolphe on Saturday, July 27, at 1:30 p.m., followed by refreshments at Le Club Amical.
