It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carmela ‘Carmen’ Boux (nee Romeo), at the age of 65, on April 30, 2024. She took the last step of her life journey at the Grace Hospice, peacefully and surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Carmen leaves behind her husband of 42 years, Brian; children: Gina (Cole), Eric (Kaitlyn) and Reneé (Greg); grandchildren: Giuliana, Camren and Abigail; sister: Marcella and brother: Joe.
Carmen treasured spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also loved cooking, crocheting, window shopping, hiking, spending down time at her cabin in Gimli and frequently visiting Vancouver.
Carmen was born on March 18, 1959, in Vancouver to parents Silvana and Francesco Romeo. She grew up in a traditional Italian household in the East Vancouver neighbourhood and attended Vancouver Technical high school, where she received her hairdressing certificate. She moved to Catanzaro, Italy shortly after high school but soon after decided to make her way back to Vancouver, with a quick stop in Winnipeg to visit family. While in Winnipeg, she met Brian, and they were married shortly after the following year. After raising her children during the earlier years, Carmen returned to work as a hairstylist and remained in the field for 25 years. She loved her work and always enjoyed catching up with her clients.
She will be remembered for her caring, compassionate, outspoken character, her love of Italian culture, and especially for her smile and laughter which made the moment.
At Carmen’s request, there will be no services, but please share your cherished memories with a smile and raise a glass in celebration of her life.
A special heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff at Cancer Care Manitoba Grace Hospital, St. Boniface General Hospital Palliative Care Service and Grace Hospice, whose dedicated, compassionate caregiving was/is immeasurable.
