It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of our beloved Mother and Nana, Bert Steinhauer on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in Winnipeg at the age of 92.
Bert was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Herb Steinhauer, and her grandson Duncan Steinhauer, as well as brother Ed, and sisters Rickee and Shirleyan.
She is survived by her daughter Sheona (Dwayne) Miller, son Doug (Lesley) Steinhauer, and grandchildren, Ceilidh Miller, Padraig Miller (Kaleigh Poirier), and Sam Steinhauer. She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Winn, Margaret, and Deanna.
Bert was born in Calgary, Alberta on May 13, 1931, and grew up on the farm in Olds, Alberta. She met Herb in 1957 and were married in 1958. While living in Calgary, son Doug, and daughter Sheona were born. In the fall of 1961, the family moved to Winnipeg. Herb and Bert retired to their home in Valhalla Beach in 1991. They loved living in their country home, hosting yearly thanksgiving celebrations, and having friends and family over to visit. Many cherished memories were made there which are held near and dear to all who were fortunate enough to have known them.
Bert loved a variety of hobbies, including golf, crafting, and wood carving. You knew you were at Nana’s house when you saw all the decorations made by her loving hands. Bert’s greatest accomplishment in life was her family. Her proudest moments were the births of her four grandchildren. She would go to the ends of the earth to do whatever her grandchildren needed and was always there for them.
In 2011 health concerns arose and they had to move back to Winnipeg. After Herb passed in 2015, she moved in with her daughter and family and attended the PRIME program at Deer Lodge Centre. In 2019, Bert required more assistance and she moved to Golden West Centennial Lodge. She made new friends but most notable were her dining friends Jock and Wally.
The family would like to thank the staff of PRIME Deer Lodge for their care while Bert was there. We would also like to thank the staff on the second floor of Golden West Centennial Lodge for their compassion over the previous four year, especially in Bert’s final days.
A celebration of life will be held at Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 13, 2024, at 11:00am, what would have been Bert’s 93rd birthday.

and that I’d have to leave behind
all those that I dearly love.
So when tomorrow starts without me,
