Laura Mae Densmore
(Wife, Mother, Nana, Daughter, Sister, Friend)
Laura passed away on the evening of July 12 at Virden Hospital at the age of 58.
She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer on April 08, 2024 and dedicated her remaining time to making memories and staying close with her family members, friends, and daycare children.
Laura leaves behind her husband Stephen, daughters Hayley (Curtis) and Ashton (Tyler), and grandchildren Camden, Dawson, Remington, Daxton, Sunny, and Mirabel.
She was born in Virden, Manitoba on April 09, 1966. She grew up on a farm in Elkhorn with her parents Brian and Donna and her siblings Joey, Wendy, Jason, and Jamie.
Laura met Stephen in 1985. They got married in 1990 and purchased their first house in Virden, Manitoba. They remained in the same house for the following 34 years where they raised their daughters and watched their grandchildren grow up.
In 1988, Laura started her career at Funshine Daycare Center. She dedicated 36 years to teaching and caring for multiple generations of children throughout the community. Whether it be a sore tummy, a scraped knee, or a bad day, she knew exactly how to make every child feel better. On April 09, Laura’s birthday, she spent the morning at cancer care getting bloodwork done. Later that morning, when she walked through the doors at Funshine, the kids all ran up to her with birthday cards and pictures that they made as they sang Happy Birthday. It was from that moment on, she knew that she was going to stay working as long as she possibly could. Laura loved her career and her coworkers so much that she continued to work until the day that she was admitted into the hospital.
In her spare time, Laura enjoyed tending to her flower beds and garden, visiting the family farm, camping across the country, travelling around the world, playing cards with her family, spending time with her close friends, and spectating her grandchildren’s activities. Whether it be soccer, gymnastics, baseball, swimming, or hockey, Laura was always on the sidelines cheering them on. There was not a day that went by that Laura did not tell her grandchildren how proud she was of them.
One of the most admirable things about Laura was how selfless she was. No matter who it was, she was there to greet you with arms wide open, kind words, and an endless amount of support. She was always positive, encouraging, and understanding. If you needed anything, at any time, she would be there in a heartbeat. She made sure you knew how loved you are, how important you are, and how beautiful you are. She could heal any kind of pain you endured with her hugs and radiant smile. Even at the end of life, Laura never complained. She spent her time with her visitors having laughs, teasing them, and making sure they knew how loved they were.
We are incredibly heartbroken to say goodbye to Laura. Our lives will never be the same with her gone. We are going to miss her hugs and seeing her beautiful smile every day. She was loved beyond words and we are incredibly grateful that we were lucky enough to be loved by her.

“Sunflower
Sometimes in life you cross paths with someone who instantly makes you feel calm, refreshed, alive, and wholesome. They encourage your dreams and celebrate your wins. They just want what’s best for you, and you for them; there isn’t much more to it. They are warm and bright, loving and loyal. You can’t help but feel authentically happy in their presence, like the best version of yourself.
Thank you for being my sunflower.”
