Tranna Homenick Obituary
Tranna May Homenick
On the afternoon of Saturday November 9th, 2024, Tranna Homenick (nee Cove) peacefully earned her wings with her family by her side, in Ottawa, Ontario.
Born in Glenboro, Manitoba on August 19, 1949 to Catherine and Walter Cove, Tranna grew up in both Brandon and Selkirk Manitoba. After graduation in Selkirk, she started as a telephone operator for Manitoba Telephone Systems before accepting a position in medical transcription at the Health Sciences Center (HSC) then transitioning to the department of genetics and heredity at HSC. That career transition paved the way for her to find her true calling as a teacher.
She entered the profession teaching medical terminology at the Health Sciences Center, before earning her Bachelor’s of Education from the University of Manitoba while simultaneously earning her Business Teacher Education diploma from Red River Community College. Driven to achieve, Tranna continued with her studies and went on to obtain her Master’s of Education from the University of Manitoba.
During her teaching career at Robertson College and then at Assinniboine College’s Brandon Adult Collegiate she made an impact on the lives of many. We know colleagues, students, and friends alike fondly remember Tranna’s commitment to her profession, recognizing her instruction was instrumental to their future; and creating her legacy through shared knowledge.
Tranna loved travelling, be it a quick “why not Minot” trip or setting sail on a cruise Tranna was always game. She liked to express herself through her writing and even had some of her poetry published. She was a wonderful cook and was always testing out new recipes and trying to perfect old ones; the beef pot pie recipe will provide her family laughter for years to come. She had a passion for playing cards and backgammon; but this all paled in comparison to the joy she got from spending time with her granddaughters.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter Christa (Howard) and beloved granddaughters, Miriam and Brighid for her incredible love, kindness, and dedication. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Predeceased by her father Walter Cove, mother Catherine Cove (nee Irwin), sister Cleo Raison (nee Cove), brother-in-laws Roy Laird and John Raison, and her brothers David and Allen.
In recent years Tranna bravely battled dementia. Special thank you to Gary J. Armstrong Long Term Care Home (GJA) in Ottawa for their commitment to ensuring her spirits were kept high and her comfort was maintained during some difficult days. A special thank you to Brenda, Margaret, Michelle, Sarah, and Dan at GJA for their extra special care and love they gave Tranna.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Selkirk United Church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
