Stella Yellowega Obituary
Stella Yellowega
Born: Aug 18, 1935
Date of Passing: Apr 24, 2024
It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Stella Yellowega. Stella was born in Dauphin MB on Aug 18th 1935, the eldest child of Bill and Mary Bayduza.
She spent her youth growing up in the farming community called Shortdale MB. Her first job was waitressing in the restaurants at a very young age. She loved to attend dances in the community. At one of the local dances, she met a young man who became her husband, Nicholas Yellowega. They were married on Oct 14, 1953.
Nick and Stella settled on the family farm in Shortdale to raise their family. Soon after their daughters Debra and Sandra came into their lives. They raised us girls to be independent, kind and caring to all. Education was very important to mom as she only had her grade 10. She always wanted to finish high school. She did without to ensure both of us had our secondary education to succeed in life.
In her 40’s Stella forged a career later in life as the Community Postmaster in Shortdale. She loved it.
Times were tough on the farm. Mom made it seem so easy. Her home was always open to family and friends to come by for a coffee and a great conversation. She had great sense of humor and love to laugh. She was our rock.
Mom was an amazing cook. You would never leave hungry. It was known by all to not eat all day before you arrived for one of her dinners. Her love was gardening, her flower beds, kitting, crochet and best of all a good game of crib and never missing a bingo. If you needed to know what was happening in the world or needed future weather updates, she was the one to call. Her favorite TV program was the Weather Network.
Later in life our parents retired to Selkirk MB. They loved the community and enjoyed being close to us.
After dad’s passing mom moved into the Knights Retirement Centre where she enjoyed her last few years.
Unfortunately, mom was dealt with poor health since she was 21. With numerous surgeries and Rheumatoid Arthritis taking over her fingers and hands. She lived with severe chronic pain.
She had a strong will to live. There were days the pain was unbearable but you would never know. She always had a smile, sense of humor and a great story to share.
Over the last few days the words, I kept on hearing…. strong, loving, funny, caring, positive and a Special Lady. We were blessed to have her as our MOM.
We will miss you, Mom. It’s time to join Dad on your next journey till we meet again.
Stella is survived by her children, Debra (Rick) of High River, AB and Sandra (Ron) of Winnipeg; niece Diane (Ed) and Karen, Denise (Ken), Kathy (Bob), Doris (Rick), Susie (Mike); nephew Richard (Lorie-Anne).
She was predeceased by husband Nick, her parents Bill and Mary, sister Yustina, brother Michael and nephew Dennis.
The family would like to thank Dr. Demsas, her home care aides Maryanne, Thelma, Amon and Wendy and the Concordia Place staff for their dedication to our mother.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, Mb with viewing one hour prior to. Interment will follow at the St. Clement’s Cemetery.
