Julie Bachewich Obituary
Julie Marie Rose Bachewich
August 17, 1980 – September 28, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Julie Bachewich on September 28, 2024, at the age of 44. Julie was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, partner, and friend, who lived her life with vibrant passion, unwavering kindness, and a spirit that brightened the lives of everyone she met.
Born on August 17, 1980, Julie’s adventurous heart carried her on journeys around the world, from Europe to every corner of Canada—traveling from the East Coast to Vancouver Island, taking a road trip through the Okanagan with her mother, and even making a pilgrimage to see the Dalai Lama with her friends. She was always seeking new experiences, whether it was traveling, trying a new restaurant, or enjoying live music and festivals with friends. Julie’s love for life was contagious—and was often seen hosting a themed party, biking along scenic paths, or relaxing at the beach, she always approached everything with curiosity and warmth.
Julie worked as a teacher’s aide and was absolutely adored by the students she helped. Many of them kept in touch long after they left school, a testament to the deep connections she made. Julie has worked many other jobs such as the Wine & Cheese shop at the Forks and the Happy Cooker, where she was beloved by customers and coworkers alike. She went to University taking Political Science and always had an intelligent thoughtful opinion, as a union rep for her school, she used her voice to advocate for others, defending colleagues and standing up for what she believed in.
Her love for people was evident in her volunteer work as well. For over a decade, she volunteered at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and recently spent a lot of time in her local school and community. Julie had a special gift for working with underprivileged and special needs children, showing them love, patience, and genuine attention. Her sunny energy and fun-loving generous spirit made people feel at ease, and she was always there to listen with an open heart.
Julie’s passion for eclectic music and art made her a true original. She loved playing games, journaling, gardening and spending time on outdoor patios with friends. Above all, Julie loved deeply and fiercely. She was a giver through and through—bright, warm, and protective of those she cared about and had a gift of bringing people together.
She is survived by her 12-year-old daughter, Penny, her husband, Nick, her parents, Ed & Betty, her brother, Ray and his wife Tina, along with their children Sarah, Liam, and Jaden, her long-time friend, Laressa; and countless other friends and family who will forever miss her vibrant presence.
Julie leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community. Her bright spirit will continue to live on in the memories of those she touched. A celebration of Julie’s life will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB at 1:00 p.m. where friends and family will gather to honor her incredible life and share stories of the joy she brought to us all.
Julie loved flowers and they are welcome at the celebration, along with any donations to causes she cared about, including lung cancer research, support for special needs children and community outreach programs.
