Holly Korba Obituary
Holly Patricia Korba
Holly Patricia Korba was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on July 3rd, 1943. And, right from the beginning, she became a wonderful, caring, and loving human being. She attended Holy Eucharist Church in Selkirk, and Holy Family in Winnipeg. Holly had her 1st Communion in Selkirk, and in Elementary School she started a friendship with Carlotta Kulpak, which never ended. She later graduated from Selkirk High School, and went on to further educate herself at the University of Manitoba, where she made many life-long friends. After completing the University program, Holly received a Bachelor of Education and Science Degree. She then went on to develop a passion for teaching children. She first taught Science to students in grades 7 to 9, and later Mathematics in grades 10 to 12, at St. John’s High School (as well as also teaching at Daniel Mac and Sisler High Schools). During her 30 plus years of teaching, Holly even got gifts from her students!
In the late 60’s, 70’s, and early 80’s, she enjoyed travelling on road trips, and flying with family and friends to many destinations in the USA, and around the World. In no particular order…Holly travelled to the “Holy Land” with Father Buyachok, and other Priests and parishioners from Winnipeg and Manitoba. Most of the time, she travelled with Carlotta to places like: Mexico, Hawaii, California, the Eastern Coast of Canada, West Indies, Jamaica, Disney World in Florida, and she even drove in her friend Lynette’s sports car to Montreal for “Expo ’67.” Bravely, she went by herself to visit her cousins Julie and Ann in England. Holly also drove and took a few friends to visit their friend Pat Hamilton at “Lake of the Woods” in Ontario, and enjoyed their stay at the cabin home one weekend. Also, she even “camped” and slept in her black van with sleeping bags, with Carlotta, at Dauphin’s Ukrainian Festival one summer weekend.
For more the 50 years, “The Korba’s” and “The Jamieson’s” went back and forth with family dinner gatherings, for Religious and Birthday events.
Holly was a “True Angel” of God, who dedicated her life to the service of others, and helped anyone who crossed her path. She donated year after year to “22” charities, including the “Winnipeg Humane Society,” and took in many “Siamese” cats over the years.
Holly took care of her family her whole life. Her mother moved in with Holly, in her elderly years. And, when Holly’s mother needed hospital, nursing, and homecare, Holly was there everyday!
She loved children, and delighted in watching them play, sing, and laugh. In her later years, she and her nephew John Korba, shared a home.
Holly struggled with Dementia for 2 to 3 years, and John was by her side, doing his best to care for her. She thought of John as if she were his mom, and loved him very much!
Holly was dedicated to her faith, never missing a Sunday mass, until she was not well enough to attend.
Holly passed peacefully, after a short stay, at the Victoria Hospital, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at around 10 pm. She was 80 years old.
