Gordon MacCollum Obituary
Gordon Dunham MacCollum
June 8th, 1934 – November 12, 2024
Peacefully at his residence Betel Home in Selkirk, Gordon passed away minutes after Remembrance Day.
Dad was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, being the eldest of 10. Here is where his commitment to help others began.
At 19, he enlisted in the RCAF and was stationed in Canada, France, Germany finally ending up in Beausejour AFB (known now as Milner Ridge Correctional Centre). After retirement, he continued his dedication to the country by becoming involved with the Army, Navy and Airforce Unit 151 Selkirk for 55 years. He held many titles there but was most proud to have been recognized as Honorary President.
Dad was a “stats” man. If you needed to know anything about any sport, he was your guy.
When dad met and married mom, he married the Ukrainian Church as well. His beautiful tenor voice resonated throughout the years. He was affectionately known as the “Ukrainian Scottsman”.
Mourning his passing daughter Kerri (Ron), sons, Craig and Gordon Jr. (Karen); brothers, Bob (Fran) and Victor (Mary); sisters, Lois, Doris (McKean), Joy (Scott), Nancy (Rick); in-laws Grace and Mildred; grandchildren, Brady (Brittany), Shelby, Pam (John), Janice ( Richard), Bradley and Lindsey, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom became family.
Parastas will be said on Monday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Blessed Virgin Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Catholic Church of Rossdale MB., 530 Donald Road Lockport, MB.
Divine Liturgy and Panakhida will be held on Tuesday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to immediately follow in the Parish Cemetery. Luncheon will follow at the Parish Hall.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents at the Betel Home in Selkirk for giving dad the utmost care, compassion and dignity during his short time there.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BVM Church of Rossdale, ANAF Unit 151 of Selkirk or a charity of your choice.
