Sharon Braden Obituary
Sharon Maureen Braden (nee Stait) was born on March 24th, 1935 in Portage la Prairie, MB. She was the eldest daughter of James and Emma (nee Fisher) Stait from High Bluff, MB. She lived in High Bluff and attended the North High Bluff School for grade 1, the Seven Oaks School in Winnipeg for grade 2, and then back to High Bluff School for grade 3. The family then moved to Portage la Prairie where she attended Victoria School for grades 4-7, and then PCI for the remainder of her education. She attended Miss McKay’s Business School for grade 12.
She was employed out of high school at Portage Mutual, then employed at Southport for 1 year as Civilian Personal Officer Secretary. After that, she was Delta Apparel Secretary for one year, owned by Gelesby. She was also employed with Child and Family Services, and then finally with the Unemployment Insurance Commission where she finished her career after approximately 25 years of service with the Government of Canada.
Mom met the love of her life Harold Aurther Roy Braden at the age of 15 at their church, Church of Christ in Portage la Prairie. Sharon and Roy were married on October 6th, 1956, and were married for 66 years until Roy’s passing in 2022. They considered Portage as their home for their married life. Fourteen months after being married, Brian Roy was born in Neepawa on December 17th, 1957, and Bonni-Lee on July 4th, 1961 in Portage la Prairie.
She is predeceased by her husband Roy, parents James and Emma Stait, parents-in-law Harold and Jessie Braden, sister Verona Rush, and brother-in-laws Keith (May) and Allan Braden.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son Brian (Carla) Braden, daughter Bonni-Lee (Billy) Houle, grandchildren David (Taralyn) Braden, Breanne (James) Galston, Jamal (Spencer) Cleaver, Zachary (Janelle) Houle, great grandchildren Zahara, Leland, Zachary, Jayce, Jordyn, Kinley, Charlie, one sister-in-law Lenora Braden, and one brother-in-law Frank Rush, along with many special cousins, as well as many loved nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Mom lived her life with dignity and grace, and never wavered. She had a kind gentile demeanor, a true beautiful soul. Her hard-working, common-sense approach to life with the love of family and her home were her first priority! Happy days were spent with her family at the little cottage at Sandy Lake. She loved a good cup of Tim Horton’s coffee anytime, but especially with friends.
According to their wishes, Mom and Dad will be laid to rest together at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens at a Private Family Interment.
