Janis Pelechaty Interment Announcement Obituary
The late Janis Kathleen Pelechaty, who passed away on Tuesday, March 24th, 2020, has been laid to rest in the family plot. The Private Burial took place on Friday, September 6th, 2024. Forever Loved, Forever Remembered.
The following obituary was written by Laura Hargreaves for her beloved Aunt Janis.
“Janis Kathleen Pelechaty passed away on Tuesday, March 24th, 2020 in her home on Countess Avenue in Portage la Prairie.
Aunt Janis and I were often mistaken as sisters because we resembled each other. She had an infectious smile and twinkling olive eyes to match her compassionate and empathic soul.
Aunt Janis was a caregiver to her parents, Jack and Kay Pelechaty for many years. She found fulfilling work in group homes. At Safe House in Portage la Prairie, she was highly regarded by her clients for her warm and gentle personality.
Cameron loved her 1969 Mustang Coupe. It had a 351 cubic inch displaced engine Cobra-jet shaker manifold. In 1970, Aunt Janis drove Cameron and I back in her Mustang to Portage la Prairie from Grandma and Grandpa Smith’s ranch located near Mankota, Saskatchewan. We grooved to Aunt Janis’s favorite Rock and Roll albums that she recorded on cassette tapes.
Aunt Janis and I were veracious readers; I often asked her for book recommendations. She had a fascination with the subject of the Jewish holocaust; I found it to be dark and depressing.
We also both shared a passion for cats, dogs and Western horseback riding. She loved my parents’ cat Mooshi. Animal safety and protection was extremely important to her.
Aunt Janis,
Your smile, your mischievous laugh, and your compassionate soul will live on within us. We love and miss you. Rest in peace. Your passing has left a large hole in our hearts.” With love, Laura, Cameron and Gail Hargreaves.
“We would like to share some memories of Janis. She was truly a lovely person. Her kind nature and generosity was evident in the lives she touched. She had a sunny disposition with a captivating smile that had a calming effect wherever she went. Janis had great compassion and empathy for others. She was a caregiver to both her parents for many years, both of whom she loved very much. Janis was a nature lover, even a bird watcher! She especially loved owls! In her earlier years she had horses and loved to ride them around the farm on Island Park. She loved her dogs and enjoyed her walks in the woods where she bonded with nature. Later on she became devoted to cats, and she leaves behind her two furry companions, Danny and Kelly. Janis grew up during the Hippie Era and with that came her love of music. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Mamas and Papas to name just a few.
She was an avid reader of all genres. There wasn’t much you could put past her as she was very knowledgeable on many fronts. Janis loved her travels to Arizona where her parents wintered for many years. She loved the ocean and her travels to California, the Canadian West Coast and Cape Cod were very dear to her heart. Janis also loved her cars, especially her 1969 Mustang Coupe, which she often spoke about when she saw a Mustang drive by. She loved to laugh and have fun, and many a good times were had dancing at some of her birthday parties!
She took great pride in all she did, whether it was in how she presented herself both In appearance and conduct. She was well respected in her work place environments. Those being the various group homes she worked in and in her later years, The Safe House in Portage la Prairie where she was highly regarded by her clients.
Janis was such a warm, gentle soul, it’s so sad that she has left us this soon. Janis, you were loved by so many. You may be gone, but you most certainly will never be forgotten. Your smile, your laugh and warm spirit will live on within us. We love and miss your Rest in Peace our dear Janis”.
Written by Karen and Jeanette, cousins of Janis, at the time of her passing.
Animal safety and protection was of utmost importance to Janis. In her memory, donations may be made to Portage Animal Welfare Society, 121 12 St NE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 4A2.
Burial arrangements were entrusted to Ronald Moffit Memorial Services.
