On June 7, 2024 at the age of 92, Dad decided it was his time to say a final “TA” to all of us and join his family and friends above. He will forever be in the hearts of his children: Bill Victoruk Jr. (Mary-Ann), Marie Tymchuk (Joe Furdyk), Susan Henderson (Cameron), Anita (the late Bob) Victoruk, Allan Kauk (Sue Henderson) , Linda (Gord) Beilner. Grandkids: Evan Victoruk (Katrine Dilay), Ryley Tymchuk, Matthew Victoruk, Laura Victoruk, Brandon Henderson and Ryan Beilner. Great-Grandchildren: Niko, Mia and Noah. Nephews and Nieces: Guy (Wilma) MacMillan, Conrad (Leslie) MacMillan, Rona (Wayne) McLennan and Donn Brow.
Dad (AKA Snork or Snorkel) started his career with the City of Winnipeg Fire Department in September 1957 and retired in April 1991. Throughout his career he held positions of Lieutenant; Training Officer and Captain.
In retirement he enjoyed curling, golfing, vacationing in Cuba and trips to the Casinos just over the border as well as the Casinos in Winnipeg. Going to Goldeyes games and watching his favorite MLB team the New York Yankees on TV.
Dad was sharp as a tack and remembered details about everything and never forgot any of his families birthdays. We attributed his sharp memory to his daily crossword puzzle solving regiment and saying the alphabet forward and backwards daily.
He was a very determined and independent person and definitely stubborn. His determination and stubborness really showed when the hospital advised us he would not make it and yet after being bed ridden for three weeks he got up and started walking and doing his steps to get his strength back and was released from hospital to the PCH.
You would never know he was legally blind, except that he had a special magnifying glass (we called it his “spy glass”) to read his newspaper and do those crossword puzzles which he was still doing up to a week before he passed.
Dad set an example for all of us to face the challenges life gives you head on and to make the best of the life you have.
We would like to give the biggest “Thank-You” possible to all the staff/persons from Maples PCH 1-West “Willow” Section that were involved in Dad’s daily care during his stay there from March to his last day. Your care, compassion and professionalism did not go unnoticed and we are forever greatful.
Dad was predeceased by his son Bob Victoruk; partner of 45 years Mary Kauk; Mom to his kids Myra Victoruk. His sisters, brother and parents: Minnie (Arnie) MacMillan, Annie (Don) Brow, Peter (Elsie) Victor and Matrona and Peter Viktoruk.
The Legacy of the surname ViKtoruk has now died with Dad. All of our birth cerficates were spelled with a “C”-ViCtoruk as he didn’t know till after we were all born that it was a K not a C.
In lieu of flowers, Dad had two charities that he faithfully donated to every year and were very close to his heart. The C.N.I.B. Foundation and the War Amps of Canada Key Tag Service. If you so desire, a donation in his memory would be a wonderful way to honor him.
Keeping with Dad’s wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration of life. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date.
