Forever in our hearts. With profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our
cherished Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Daughter, and Friend.
Shirley passed away peacefully, after a brave and hard fought battle with cancer on
April 15th 2024 at Concordia Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Ernest and Edna Jolicouer on January 13th
1964. She grew up in St. Vital and was a loving sister from the moment she existed; to her
older brother, then her younger brother, and her younger sister. She worked happily for many
years in the service and restaurant industry, starting as a waitress in her teenage years working
at Salisbury House.
Shirley married in 1986 and shortly after moved with her husband to Comox, British Columbia where she would become a mother in May of 1988. She continued working as a server in many fine dining establishments in British Columbia, after moving to the mainland, where she would always bring her happiness and positivity to warm the hearts of her colleagues, and patrons; many of whom she created strong, long-lasting bonds with.
In April 1999 Shirley and her husband were blessed with their second child. She went on to
manage a restaurant, after moving back to Winnipeg, for many years until she was forced into
a new career path. She became a grandmother in January of 2024, a brief 10 days after her own
60th birthday, and she made it her mission in her final weeks to share as much of her love with
her grandchild as she could.
Shirley worked exceptionally hard at everything she did, dedicating herself to anything she had a hand in, and worked until she could no longer; providing meals and her loving warmth for students at the high school she graduated from.
She cherished spending time with her friends, family and children; entertaining them
with her unique brand of humour, her exceptional cooking, her tender care, and always willing
to help in any way she could with unbridled, unconditional love.
Her favourite place to be away from home was Hawaii; where she had visited twice. Her last visit there was in February of 2024 where she greatly enjoyed a month of fun in the sun with her dear brothers and their
ward.
Shirley is survived by her children Cortney (Michael) and Raymond; her grandchild William; her father Ernest; siblings Melanie (Maurice), John (Randy), and Stanley; nephew Steven (Jackie); as well as many more family and friends who she cared for dearly.
She was predeceased by her mother Edna; former mother-in-law Yvonne; former father-in-law Joe; and former spouse, the father of her children John.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Manitoba or Cancer Care
Manitoba.
In accordance with her wishes a private celebration of life will be held. Cremation has
taken place.
