It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful, loving and kind Wife, Mother, Grandma, Nan and Oma on March 29, 2024 at the age of 88 with her loving family by her side.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband John, daughter Teresa (Bruce), son Walter, grandchildren Jenna (Sean), Daniel, Alex (Brandi) and Trevor; great grandchildren Nolan, Aiden, Audrey and Xavien; Siblings George (Gisela), Johanna, Dorothy, Agatha (Paul), John (Christine), and sister-in-law Patricia. She was predeceased by her parents Arie and Dirkje Koene and numerous in-laws.
Mom was born in Loosduinen, The Netherlands in 1935 and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1953, settling in Winnipeg.
She married the love of her life in 1961, having just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on March 3, 2024. They raised their children in Transcona in a loving, caring, Christian home. She was a faithful member of Transcona Christian Reformed Church.
Mom’s hobbies included knitting, bowling, walking, playing cards, camping, fishing and watching wrestling (that was “her sport”). All members of our family have received sweaters and afghans knitted with love which we will all cherish forever.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge-Willow Unit for their care, compassion, respect and dignity shown to our mom during her stay with you.
Funeral service will be held at the Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Ave. West, Winnipeg, on Friday April 5, 2024 at 1:30 pm. For those that wish to join virtually may do so by using the Worship Livestream link on the Transcona Christian Reformed Church website. (transconacrc.ca) Interment will follow at a later date.
