Henry peacefully passed away June 18th,2024 after celebrating Father’s Day, at home, with his family at his side at the age of 82. He will be sadly missed by his wife Shirley of 56 years, son Shane (Glenda) daughter Cheryl (Ted), grandchildren William (Angie), Hunter, Josh, Brooke (Tanner), sister-in law Margaret, chosen grandchildren Peter (Chelsey), Melissa (TeeJay) and chosen great grandchildren Paisley, Havanah as well as numerous extended family and great friends. He will be deeply missed by his fur baby Zena. Henry was predeceased by his mother Elisabeth Rempel and his chosen son Orville Post.
Dad was born in Tiege Ukraine and immigrated to Canada at nine years old with his family, settling eventually in Winnipeg. In 1967, dad graduated with his journeyman bricklaying, leaving his legacy on buildings such as the Trizec building, the Legislative building and many more throughout Manitoba/Alberta. In 1981, Henry started his second career working for Bristol Aerospace as a radiographer, x-raying rocket motors then retired to enjoy the good life.
Henry and Shirley met as well in 1967, engaged after a month of dating and marrying the following March, enjoying many years together, building their family, their home and traveling. Their first child Shane born in 1969, their daughter Cheryl in 1972, building their second home in Springfield, later building a home in Bird River when they retired, until finally settling in the River Creek Estates in Lockport where they made many great friends.
During retirement, they took many trips to their favorite hot spot, Cuba, with Orville and Margaret, as well, having the opportunity to spend time with Shane’s family in Cuba and a road trip to the Maritimes. Christmas came hot one year, spending it in Puerto Vallarta Mexico with Cheryl and the family, as well as a visit to Churchill.
Dad loved travel but he would trade it all in for bush trip canoeing, fishing, and the more remote the better in his younger years. These were times he and the boys got to bond, and he could just be with nature. He looked forward to his yearly deer hunting trips up in Hartney Sand Hills with his son, grandsons, friends, the hunting crew as he would say.
Special thanks to the friends at River Creek Estates for supporting mom and dad through the last couple weeks and to Margaret Post for being there to support mom.
A private service will be held in his honor. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke foundation or Cancer Research in dads name.
