After an extended illness, it is with great sadness the family share that Georges Guy Coutu lost his struggle with cancer on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 80 years.
Georges was born in 1943 in Lachute, Quebec and settled in Winnipeg after years in both Montreal and Ottawa. He had a long career in the federal public service, working in various departments and ultimately finding his place as a Registrar with the Federal and Tax Courts and Court Administrative Services. He retired in 2008 after over 35 years of public service. Georges was passionate about history, sailing and food, which he shared with others through his community radio show in the 1990s. He was proud of his sons and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow.
Georges is lovingly remembered by his three sons, Mitch, Pierre, and Roger (Tamara). He will be missed by his grandchildren: Lauren and Vivian (Mitch), Alexander and Sebastian (Pierre), and Munro, Kaitlyn, and Honora (Roger); Georges was predeceased by his parents, Gerard (1969) and Carmen (nee Rousseau) Coutu (1993), and sisters Denise Tellier (2015) and Renée Ducasse (2020).
No service will be held at his personal request. In place of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba (www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca/) would be appreciated.
We are deeply grateful to the staff at Actionmarguerite Saint-Boniface in unit 2DE and CancerCare Manitoba for the exceptional care and comfort Georges has received in the past several months. Their dedication and compassion were a source of great comfort to Georges and our family, and we will always be appreciative.
