On Friday, December 1st, 2023, at the Red River Valley Lodge, in Morris Manitoba, Robert Thomas Glenn Douglas Lenton, passed away, aged 79 years, of Morris/Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service Celebrating Glenn’s life will be held at the Morris United Church, 207 Ottawa Avenue West, Morris, on Saturday, December 16th, at 2:00 P.M., Rev. Leslie Poulin officiating. Interment will follow at a later date.
Glenn’s employment was varied in the transportation industry helped cement his customer service attitude “to go the extra mile”. Glenn worked for his Dad in the Imperial Oil Bulk Agency and Dealership in Ridgeville – W.T. Lenton & Son until Dad’s retirement. He went on to work for other businesses in the area eventually working for Simplot, Cargill AgHorizons in Morris and then transferring to Cargill AgHorizons, Winnipeg East. It was at Cargill AgHorizons, in September 2003, that Glenn received “The Key to the Keystone Award”, recognizing his valuable contribution to the Keystone FSG team, selected by his peers. In retirement, Glenn was having so much fun that he continued to work 3 days a week before he decided to trade in his steel toed boots, hard hat, and gloves for a sportier look on the golf course and cottage life.
Glenn enjoyed participation in a variety of sports. The exception being soccer, because of a leg fracture when he wished he had remained a spectator. He achieved the Red Cross Bronze Medallion in swimming, thanks to the local Women’s Institutes that sponsored the Red Cross swimming lessons at New Bridge.
Glenn in his early years, learn the appreciation of Sunday day trips around the province to check out the countryside, and the crops. This is where he earned his appreciation of nature. Though there were some territorial spats in the backseat on occasion. As he got older his travel extended to further places more than the day trips. He travelled Canada from coast to coast to coast. Life was never boring he loved to be on the go. He was very proud of his “wee bit of Irish ancestry” and in 2018 realized his dream of travelling to Ireland. Glenn was fun loving with a sense of humour that endeared him to many. He loved to play practical jokes and enjoyed being the recipient of this own antics.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years Darlene Wilkinson, his sisters, Cherry Lenton, Winnipeg, Debbie Lenton-Bremaud (Art), Peggy Lenton-Unrau (Ralph Fyfe) all of Morris, grandchildren Sierra and Madison Lenton, of Lethbridge, Alberta, in-laws Gail and Marcel Gobeil of Winnipeg, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and former customers.
He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Louise Lenton and his son Carl.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Red River Valley Lodge (Courtyard Enhancements), Canadian Wildlife Federation or a charity of their choice.
A very special thank you to the Red River Valley Lodge management and staff, for their kindness and compassionate care.
“Remember him with a smile today. He was not one for tears. Reflect instead on memories of all the happy years. Recall minding the way he spoke and all the things he said, his strength, his stance, and the way he walked, remember them instead. The good advice he’d give us, his eyes that shone with laughter. So much of him will never die but live on ever after. As we love you, so we miss you. In our memory you are near, loved, remembered, longed for always, bringing many a silent tear.”
