Dad passed away with family at his side at Carberry Health Centre on March 21, 2024. Art was born March 29, 1936 at Fairdale, Manitoba. He grew up on the family farm there. Dad met mom (Frances Morrow) when she came from Cypress River to tour the Fairdale School where she would eventually teach, and as a result would would room and board at the Maynard Farm. Mom and dad eventually married August 2, 1958.
Dad worked for various farmers in the Fairdale and Holmfield Districts as well as farming himself in Treherne, where they lived for a long time. At one point Dad travelled to Wililam’s Lake, BC working in a plainer mill and then travelled back to Killarney to work at Clark Construction and Pugh’s Construction. He then switched gears and worked at Frank’s Ford Dealership. Dad worked towards his steam engineer certificate which took him to Turtle Mountain School Division (Killarney Collegiate), and the Ninette Sanatorium. He retired while working at the Tri-Lake Health Centre maintenance department. He took pride in his volunteer ambulance service certificate to provide service to Killarney and surrounding area. He had humorous stories of the high school students and staff as well as the hospital staff and residents.
Dad’s spare time was spent golfing, fishing, and hunting. He developed a love of trap shooting and joined the Rock Lake Gun Club winning many competitions. He also tool up wood carving and won many carving competitions with Prairie Carvers and Wheat City Carvers. He would still sit and carve until recently on his deck in Carberry where he and mom had moved to in 2017, to be closer to family.
Mom and Dad travelled to the U.S., Switzerland, Ukraine, Ireland, England, and drove coast to coast in Canada.
He was predeceased by his dad Harry, mom Mabel as well as his sisters Bessie and Luella.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 65 years Frances, children Brian (Linda), Karen (Lorne), Kolleen (Don), 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
