Obituary of Kimberly Jane Hoban
Born on December 31, 1966, Kimberly Jane Hoban, cherished wife of Derek Hoban for 27 years, passed away on December 30, 2023. She is survived by her loving parents Viktor and Betty Loewen, brother Derek (Tara) Loewen, and sister Tricia (Shelby) Wiebe, mother-in-law Shirley Hoban, brother-in-law David Hoban along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Kim’s joyful childhood was filled with wonderful visits with cousins and friends, gymnastics, water and snow skiing, and cherished moments at the family cottage. A tenacious spirit, she mastered slalom skiing at the age of 8 and embraced various home renovation projects, showcasing her creativity and determination.
A graduate of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate, she then continued on to receive a Bachelor of Nursing degree. Kim found fulfillment in her work as a VON (Victoria Order of Nurses), providing compassionate care until health challenges intervened. Undeterred, she continued using her nursing knowledge to support her family and others, exemplifying empathy and resilience.
Diagnosed with inoperable and non-treatable glandular cancer on October 25, 2023, Kim faced the news with determination to savour and live each moment fully. Her brother Derek and sister Tricia provided unwavering support, creating a special bond during her last weeks. Her husband Derek stood by her side, cherishing a lifetime of shared joy, including their love for animals and their beloved pets.
Kim’s impact on others was immeasurable, evident in the outpouring of visits and messages from her “army of angels.” Even in her illness, Kim’s life remained meaningful, reminding us of the beauty found in resilience and love.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Duerksen, Dr. Grocholski, Chaplain Justin Neufeld, and the exceptional nurses and healthcare team at St. Boniface Hospital. Your support has been deeply appreciated.
As we bid farewell and celebrate her life, we hold on to the sure belief that we will be reunited with Kim in heaven. Her legacy, a tapestry of love and enduring strength, will continue to inspire us all.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either the Crohns and Colitis Association, Multiple Sclerosis Association, or Manitoba Cancer Care. Kim fought these diseases throughout her lifetime. Donations to these causes would mean so much to our family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
