Anthony “Tony” Pulak Obituary
Anthony (Tony) Edward Pulak
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Tony Pulak, at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 23rd 2023.
Tony was born August 16, 1927 at the family farm near Venlaw. Tony, his two sisters, Leona and Josephine, grew up with his father John and mother Pearl in Eden Manitoba. He completed high school at St Joseph College in Yorkton Saskatchewan. Tony was a multi-sport athlete excelling at everything he tried, including track and field, baseball, and hockey. Tony worked briefly in the Eden farming district where the family operated a general store and then with Manitoba Hydro, ultimately settling into a long career as an operator agent at several locations with Canadian National Railway. Tony met his wife Anastasia (Nan) Maksymetz and settled in Dauphin, Manitoba to raise their family.
Tony was an active member of the Dauphin Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection and served as an elder in the church for many years. Tony was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Tony took great pride in gardening. For many years he enjoyed gardening with Nan at his house in Dauphin and also the farm garden in Venlaw. Everything from apples and asparagus to yellow squash and zucchini was plentiful and usually ended up at family and neighborhood kitchens. Tony lived his life through family, and enjoyed outdoor activities like cross country skiing in the winter, golf with various family relatives when they got together. He also enjoyed watching sports and cheering on his favorite Canadian teams.
He was predeceased by his wife Nan, and leaves behind son Rock of Belmont, Massachusetts wife Alice, grandchildren Rock Nicholas and Anastasia, as well as son Tim of Winnipeg wife Susanne, grandchildren Alexander, Katherine, and Mark, as well as many nephews and nieces.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held in Dauphin, Manitoba on Monday, December 4th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection, followed by internment at Dauphin Riverside Cemetery with luncheon for family and friends to follow.
