Carol Thompson Obituary
Carol Jean (DesLauriers) Thompson (March 31, 1933 – June 28, 2024)
Carol Thompson, wife of the late Don Thompson of Carnduff, SK. passed away peacefully at the Sunset Haven, Carnduff on Friday, June 28, 2024 at the age of 91.
Carol was born the second oldest of five children on March 31, 1933 in Sherwood, ND, to Arthur & Esther DesLauriers. She married Don Thompson on June 13, 1953 at St. James Catholic Church in Sherwood, ND. Once Don and Carol were married, he was stationed in Jacksonville, FL at the United States Navy base where they had their first son Terry on March 30, 1954. Once her husband Don was discharged from the United States Navy they moved back to Mohall, ND to settle on the farm where they had their second son Tim on January 14, 1956 and their third son Tony on November 10, 1958. In 1960 Don and Carol moved to Carievale, SK where she was a homemaker and her husband Don farmed. They had their fourth son Tom on August 12, 1961. In 1972 Don and Carol moved to Carnduff, SK where they have spent the last 54 years. Carol lost the love of her life Don on January 17, 2020. She remained in Carnduff for the remainder of her life.
While Carol was a homemaker, raising 4 boys she attended university during the summer to work towards her teaching career. She began teaching at Carnduff High School in 1967 where she taught Business Education (typing and accounting) until she retired in 1988. After Carol retired, she loved crocheting, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and a valuable member of the St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Carnduff, SK for many years.
Don and Carol enjoyed spending time in Yuma, AZ and camping with their friends and family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Every summer her grandchildren came to stay with her and her husband Don. She took them to swimming every day and had picnics in the park, but no one was allowed to go swimming until after 30 minutes had passed. Every time she saw the little ones her eyes would light up. Carol loved music and dancing. I don’t think she ever said no to a dance. Now you and your husband Don can dance away.
Carol is survived by her son Terry Thompson (Lynn), grandkids Krista Thompson and Wesley Thompson; grandkid Chris Thompson, great grandkids Kirsten, Dominic and Bryson; grandkid Tanya Thompson Michon (Dan), great grandkids Kayden and Jaxon; grandkid Doug Thompson (Rocio), great grandkids Julian and Tyler; son Tony Thompson (Emily), grandkid Curtis Thompson (Kate), great grandkids Kyle and Claire; grandkid Melissa Thompson Jove (Fred), great grandkids Eliana, Adilen and Rhoen; grandkid Scherise Thompson; and great grandkids Elizabeth and Mia; son Tom Thompson (Jackie), grandkid Hailey Thompson, great grandkid Kingston; great grandkids Laela and Idalia; and step grandkids Brandon, Adriana and Stefan Ignjatic.
Carol is also survived by her sisters Rose Brown, Ione Smith and Renee (Don) Lakefield-Fraser; sisters-in-law Sharon DesLauriers and Beverly Knutson; brother-in-law Walter Jr. Thompson (Cindy); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don Thompson; son Tim Thompson and grandson Bob Thompson; her parents Arthur and Esther DesLauriers; brother Gerald DesLauriers; brothers-in-law Alfred Solemsaas, Perry Brown, Ervin Lakefield, Leonard Smith, Denny Thompson, and Darold Thompson; sisters-in-law Margaret Thompson and Gracie Thompson; nephew/godson Perry Brown; and great nephew Jamie McMechan.
