It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christian (Chris) Andrest on September 23rd, after a long battle with cancer.
Chris is survived by his brother, Brian Andrest (Cindy) and his sister-in-law Christine Andrest. He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Elsie, and his oldest brother Alan.
Born on January 15, 1955, Chris grew up in East Kildonan and attended Miles Mac Collegiate. Chris loved to travel and did so for several years to many places with his friends. He loved fishing and hunting and did both whenever he could. He took a job with Manitoba Hydro in 1976 while attending Red River College where he completed his Operator’s Certificate.
In December 1985, he married the love of his life (Janis) whom he met in 1978. Although they divorced, they became close again in early 2000 and remained so until his passing. In 1986, he was transferred to Great Falls with Hydro and spent the next 37 years living in Seven Sisters Falls where he retired in 2010. In 2015 he was diagnosed with cancer and fought bravely for 8 years until the quality of his life deteriorated.
He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
A special thank you to Dr. Bruneau and the nursing staff at Pinawa Hospital Cancer Care; the team at Health Science Centre Cancer Care; and to his many friends in Seven Sisters – especially Jason, Dwayne, Tanya and Kurt who took care of him these past 8 years.
A private celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
