Obituary of Paul Norman Rogers
Paul Norman Rogers of Charlottetown, PEI, passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown on March 22, 2024. His beloved chosen daughter, Kaleigh (Williams) and his sister, Linda Slade (Rogers) were by his side.
Paul was born June 26, 1943, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to T. Lemuel Rogers and Ann Rogers (McInnes). The family subsequently moved to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia where Paul spent his formative years. He was a member of the New Glasgow Air Cadet Squadron and after high school he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he served for thirty years. He was a proud member of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in the Middle East on two separate assignments. He served at a number of military bases in Canada; his last assignment being Summerside, PEI, from which he retired. After retirement he worked for many years as a Commissionaire at the Court House in Charlottetown, and later at the Cruise Ship terminal welcoming tourists to the Island.
He was an avid hobbyist and spent years as a philatelist and coin collector, amassing large collections of both from many places in the world. He also enjoyed calligraphy and woodworking. He was a collector by nature and his home was filled with unusual objects that he gathered up over the years. Once he had your ear, he could tell amazing stories for hours on end.
Paul was strong-willed and a tad stubborn at times, but he lived to make this world better than he found it. He had an enormous heart and to this end he donated to many charities. He had dozens of foster children during his lifetime.
In addition to his chosen daughter, Kaleigh, and his sister, Linda Slade of Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia, he is also survived by two brothers, Gary Rogers of Malagash, Nova Scotia, and Scott Rogers, of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia; five nieces, two nephews and their families.
Paul was known for his caring nature, amazing pumpkin carvings at Hallowe’en, and his weakness for date squares. He will always be lovingly remembered.
Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home from where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 am. No visitation by request. Interment will take place later at People’s Cemetery, Charlottetown.
Memorial donations may be made online to Canadian Diabetes Association.
