Obituary of Jocelyn Altass
It is with broken hearts we share that Jocelyn Marie Altass (Power) of Stratford, PEI passed away peacefully at 69 years young surrounded by her family on April 24, 2024. Beloved wife of David, adored mother of Alicia (Shawn) and Brittany (Evan) and cherished Nana to Addison, Theo, Maria and Louise. Jocelyn will be forever missed by her siblings James (Karen), Carol, Pam (Paul), Trish (Dave Amos), Danny (Jo-Anne) and Stevie, and many treasured nieces and nephews. She will also be sorely missed by dear friends and cousins too numerous to name. Jocelyn is predeceased by, and now lovingly reunited with, her parents Hughie and Fran (Prosper) Power.
Jocelyn had a zest for life evident to anyone she met. Her ability to light up a room was topped only by her sincere and unwavering kindness. She grew up in Parkdale and has loved reconnecting with friends from those days in recent years. In her adolescence Jocelyn met some of her nearest and dearest including her best friend and bosom-buddy Karen, and a certain singer at the Rollaway who was so charming he soon became her lifelong love. As an adult Jocelyn and Dave moved to Toronto for several years, and later lived and raised their children in Truro, NS where Jos played a huge part as a volunteer with several community groups and school band programs. Her children meant the world to Jocelyn and she was an avid supporter of their interests; always smiling from the front row at every show, and encouraging her girls to find something that made their hearts happy and when they did to hold onto it tightly. In 2008 Jocelyn and Dave joyfully returned to PEI and have spent many wonderful years here among family and friends, and eventually grandkids who have been the centre of Jos’s world since 2015. Jocelyn was also passionate about genealogy and gathered incredible stories and history about the Prosper Family tree in recent years.
Our lives are forever richer for having known and loved her.
Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, visiting hours will be on Wednesday May 1st from 4-7pm. A celebration of life will take place at the Pourhouse in Charlottetown on Sunday May 5th, from 1-4pm. If you feel comfortable to do so, we encourage you to wear something bright to reflect the phenomenal amount of light and love she brought to this world.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
