Shelia Rae
(Smith) MacKay raced into this life May 4th, 1940, many months too
early. Her father, Henry, loved to tell the story of how one night,
after lots of crying, he filled her full of a bottle of raw cow milk,
placed her in her shoe box, and put her in the warming cabinet on the
wood stove. After a full night of sleep, her mother, Irene, awoke in a
mad panic yelling that Henry had killed the baby! Mom never stopped
from that moment on until Friday, February 2nd, 2024. Surrounded by
family who loved her dearly, Shelia took her last breath and
peacefully went to be with her husband H Ross MacKay who passed May 2,
2017.
Ross and Shelia met and then married in Toronto,
Ontario on July 31st 1965. They started their family of 4 children
there before moving to PEI in 1976 and provided a loving, learning,
caring, fun upbringing to Barbie, Debbie, Jamie and Wendy. That love
then extended to a large extended family creating beautiful
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
True to her
loving and giving nature, Shelia dedicated her life to the nursing
profession. Her love for anyone who was lucky enough to benefit from
her care at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, Maplewood Manor, Alberton
and The Villa, O’Leary was so apparent. Beyond work, her
commitment to family, friends, community, and acquaintances extended
well beyond the Island. Shelia was a part of so many committees,
boards and councils that we could not mention them all….we
would miss too many. She cared so deeply for others and for wonderful
causes, she helped many seniors stay in their homes long after they
could have gone into care, she donated, time, money, things, vehicles,
whatever she thought someone might need.
Our loss is
huge, Heaven is rejoicing….this Angel earned her wings many
times over.
