After a hard fought 5-year battle with multiple cancers, David “Wayne” Piper passed away at home Apr 29, 2024, just shy of his 81st birthday. Wayne was born May 5, 1943, in Kingston, ON. Predeceased by his parents Veronica Elizabeth West and Walter Alfred Piper and grandson Darrel Tchir. Survived by his beloved wife Julie, son Rob, daughter Wendy, brother Ray (Leanne), grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, cousins and lifelong friends Tom and Sandy, Vern, Valerie and Greg.
Wayne grew up in Kingston, was an alter boy and developed a passion for sports. Basketball, hockey, baseball, football and eventually curling.
Wayne enrolled in the RCAF Dec 6, 1961. Many postings in Canada including Borden, Winnipeg, Cold Lake, Parent, Holberg and Alert. He also did a peacekeeping tour in Egypt. Last posting was to Victoria in 1990. Wayne was fortunate while serving to play on many National teams the sport he loved best, softball and slo-pitch. Wayne retired from the military in 1996, settling in Victoria.
Retirement was short lived as Wayne joined the Commissionaires in 1997 until completely retiring in 2014. Lucky enough to spend those years at the Canadian Coast Guard.
Wayne spent many years travelling to St. George, Utah, to play slo-pitch in the Huntsman Senior Games. Loved cruising with Julie and many trips to Las Vegas.
He will lovingly be remembered and forever missed by his family, friends and teammates.
