After fighting cancer for the past three years, Lorne peacefully passed away in the morning on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the age of 65 years at McKinney Creek Hospice in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.
Lorne, beloved husband of 37 years to Irene and dear father to Daniel and Samantha. Cherished son of the late Robert and Lorna (Wall) and brother to the late Gary and Karen.
Lorne was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on June 16, 1959. He attended Alexander Galt Regional High School and studied Radio and Television at Niagara College in Niagara Falls. Once graduating, his career in the film industry began as a tape operator in Toronto where he later began his long-standing career as a colourist which took him to post houses in Toronto, Edmonton and finally Vancouver.
Settling into Metro Vancouver, Lorne created courses and became an instructor of his trade while freelancing and finally culminated his expertise into being an on-set colourist and digital imaging technician. He took great pride in his work, pioneering his services, arriving to set in the early morning hours to beat the traffic and being one of the last to leave, sometimes having the lights turned off while he was still there. His many gigs took him to locations all throughout BC, especially to every inch of the Lower Mainland. It was rare to be with Lorne and not go past a site where, “We filmed here,” wasn’t heard.
Lorne was a family man and relished spending time with his wife and kids once he had caught up on sleep from working graveyards or 10-hour shifts – particularly catching up over breakfast, coffee, a walk or a combination of the three. He also reserved time every weekend for a long phone call with his brother to catch up.
Lorne will be remembered for his warmth, thoughtfulness, tenacity, sense of humour and all-around love for those in his life and life itself.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff and volunteers of the McKinney Creek Hospice who provided exceptional TLC.
