Obituary for Brian Joseph Kahnert
November 10, 1958 – September 27, 2024
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Brian Joseph Kahnert on September 27, 2024, at the age of 65 years.
Brian is lovingly remembered by his wife Heather Bray and sons Mitchell and Steven, mother Eileen Watson and father Erle, sister Lia Gordon (Ian), brothers Paul (Elaine) and Michael, nieces Alex and Graecie Gordon, and nephew Justin Kahnert.
Brian grew up in Toronto and spent carefree childhood summers with his siblings and cousins at the family cottage on Lake Nipissing. Vancouver became Brian’s home when he moved at age 17 to attend UBC, where he earned BSc and MSc degrees. He then launched a successful career in management consulting and business development, with a special interest in energy, environmental technologies and entrepreneurship.
Brian enjoyed adventure travel and being in the outdoors with his family and many friends. He lived life to the fullest on skis, bikes, hiking trails and on the water. Brian was a devoted husband and enthusiastic father, tirelessly cheering on his sons in their sporting endeavours. A loyal companion to the end, he was also “honourary uncle” to his friends’ children, whom he loved to entertain.
We are grateful to Brian’s family physician, Dr Duncan Miller, the BC Cancer team, and the staff of St John’s Hospice for their expert and compassionate care.
All who knew and loved Brian are invited to join in a Celebration of Brian’s Life to be held at the University Golf Club on Sunday November 10, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Memories of Brian will be shared at 1:30 pm.
