Obituary of Robert Charles Hesketh
Born in Trail, BC, later moving to Castlegar, Bob was the eldest of four children. As a boy he enjoyed the outdoor life, spending many early morning fishing and hunting in the Kootenay mountains with his dad and uncle Charlie.
After graduating from high school, Bob moved to Spokane Washington to study accounting. He then worked at pulp mills in Castlegar, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert before moving to Quesnel in 1972 where he was hired by Cariboo Pulp & Paper (CPP), and was among the first employees when the mill began operating that year.
In all, Bob worked at CPP for 30 years until retiring at the age of 65. While he spent most of his tenure as chief accountant, in 1999 he was recruited to head the Y2K transition team due to his extensive knowledge of CPP’s various computer systems. When he retired in 2005, he was in charge of the management of maintenance purchasing.
Civic minded, Bob coached multiple sports, organized many golf tournaments, and served on the executive in a variety of capacities for minor hockey, curling, and the BC Seniors Games. He will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his wife Anna Sorban of 31 years, his two children, Kendra and Ian (Cleo) and granddaughter Sadie; his step-children Katherine (Chuck), Karen and George (Jennifer), his step-grandchildren Jordan, Mason, Brock, Peyton, and Darien; his brother Hal, many nieces, nephews and numerous close friends.
The family invite you to join them for his Celebration of Life followed by reception on Saturday, December 7th at 2:00PM at Clayton’s Funeral Director’s Hall.
